A mother's heart weeps...

"My heart weeps for all the mothers
Losing their children to excessive computer games
How I weep for the little boys and girls
Snatched from the cradle of their mother's love
And taken by things that give short, shallow joys."

These words, I said unto you, my son,
One night at the kitchen table as we ate
Our dinner of vegetable stew and roasted fish.
'Twas a night of sharing hopes and dreams
From me to you. And I continued:

"I hope you remain as you are
As when computer games, gadgets, and gizmos
Were still unknown to you
A boy with profound joy in simple things
Like children stories, candies, and simple toys.

I remember the time when you were still a year or two
You would go outside the house then came rushing back
Looking for father and mother and you would smile
Seeing your father at the kitchen, kneading bread
And you would savor the food I cooked on the kitchen stove.

If, as you grow, education takes you high and far
And lets you wear a crown of life's distinctive laurels
I will love to see the same little boy in you, son
With a heart still yearning for simple things and simple joys
With thirst, unquenchable, for God's teachings and wisdom."

Then, I was glad when I saw tears welling
From your eyes and felt sorry for the mothers
Who lost their children to alluring virtual games
I know in my heart, you are the same little boy
I used to know and will always be.. and I thank God for that.
