Hello dear Steemianos, today I would like to share with you my father's knowledge about fire prevention and fighting. I will mention some concepts and rules that are necessary to know in order to avoid a tragedy or in the worst case, be in the ability to combat it.

ORIGIN OF THE FIRE

In the cave age, primitive man knows fire through natural phenomena, such as volcanoes, lightning, forest fires, even some tribes had the sun as God of fire.

Already for the stone age, the man in his evolution and progress makes use of the stone to elaborate his tools of work, arms of defense and hunting by incident when rubbing both stones produces a spark giving origin to the fire for the first time, with this man domesticates fire to cook his food and warm his dwellings.

The man in his eagerness of evolution and progress, in the iron age industrialized fire through mining and large iron foundries for the manufacture of machinery, vehicles, weapons of war, etc., causing great material and human losses what which needed to exercise control in the rational use of it.

WHAT IS THE FIRE

Fire is an igneous manifestation of light, flame and heat resulting from incomplete combustion.

We understand igneous manifestation as the lowest temperature above normal where a matter burns in its solid, liquid or gaseous state.

  • LIGHT

It is the part of the blue fire that illuminates the environment

  • FLAME

It is yellow and is in contact with the burning material

  • HOT

It is transparent and burns by radiation. In the way in which we approach the fire we can suffer burns

It is the graphic representation of the fire composed of three cathetes that we define below.

  1. Oxygen: it is 21% in the environment

  2. Temperature: it is the lowest temperature above normal where a body burns

  3. Matter: in its liquid, solid or gaseous state. As an example we find in solids (wood, paper, plastics, etc), in gaseous (domestic gas, industrial), and in liquids (petroleum derivatives)

VENTILATION

It is the process of dislodging toxic and hot gases from a closed place and must be done on the opposite side of the wind direction

As an example, when we have the perception of the smell of gas in the kitchen, we should not turn on lights, phosphorus, etc., without first doing the ventilation of the place. We open doors and windows and proceed to control the leak

FIRE FIGHTING

We have three types of fire

  1. Forestry

  2. Electric

  3. Domestic and industrial

To fight fires we must deactivate the fire triangle eliminating one of its components

How to eliminate the temperature

We do it by cooling using extinguishing agent, water, CO2 carbon dioxide extinguisher

How to eliminate oxygen

We do it by drowning reducing the oxygen of the environment from 25% to 10% using the extinguishing agent, dry chemical powder, in other cases we use sand, etc.

How to eliminate the matter

We do it by removal moving the matter to a safe place where the fire does not expand and by confinement, which is when we isolate the material that is burned so that it does not expand

Prevention of domestic and industrial fires

Storage of dry materials

• They can not be glued to walls and electrical wires because these are heat conductors
• Classify the product separating them from each other, a space of 60 cm

Storage of chemical products

• Must be in a ventilated area
• The containers must be properly sealed and identified
• The lighting of the tank must be based on fluorescent lights, which does not generate heat
• The containers or must be in contact with the floor

Prevention of fires due to electrical causes

• Wiring according to the power consumption
• It takes current without defects
• Electrical connections in good condition

Prevention of forest fires

• Do not throw glass in vacant lots
• No boots cigarette butts
• Turn off fires when they are used in the field
