Otter
So fast in the water, so playful and so slick. I always wanted to be just that. Playful and slick and fast in the water. My home, my resting place, my place of joy.
So fast was I swimming in the river, playing with all creatures. So little did I know of the dangers awaiting us there. My mom always told me that the otters, the ones I was watching and longing to play with are our enemy. They eat us and they are fast enough that they can catch us.
Not like the things that ever so often come to the shores and sometimes even into the water. They have two sticks attached to them and are very clumsy the way they are moving. We always know when they are there. There is a big shadow announcing their coming. And the noise and disturbances all along our river.
We always know and they are so silly trying to lure us to them with food that is not even food. Even the smallest baby knows not to go there.
Well, there are the ones that are so sad. They just don't want to be here anymore. Many have seen stuff of all colors flowing into our river and drank from it. It made them sad and tired of the freedom, the joy, the play we are all having here all day long.
They are the ones that first come and say goodbye to us and tell us that they are going to go now. Off to some place we never have seen or heard of. None of them have come back to tell us about it.

...they are going to go now. Off to some place we never have seen or heard of. None of them have come back to tell us about it.
This would make a good Prompt for a fiction contest! (Someone remind me that I hosted my last contest, last year...)
