I tried growing purple prairie clover, but it never spread, and one hard winter killed it. Same with my rattlesnake master. The prairie smoke survived ten winters, and now, not a trace of it left. Every year I fear the end of my beloved orange butterfly weed, but it's just the last one to poke its head above ground. Pollinator gardens are beautiful! I've resorted to non-natives like Dame's Rocket (resemebles purple phlox) in difficult areas (dry and sandy, or clay). Great photo, Marianne!
What a great close-up! Looks gorgeous.

I have clover also, but my flowers are pink.
interesting!! what do the leaves look like?
@mariannewest They are hard to see in the picture, they are clover shaped but I did not see any four leaf ones, all 3 leaves.

It is so much harder to garden in a tough winter area. That said, I had many plants come and go as well. Just the circle of life, I suppose
