Passion Fruit
Yesterday, we were pruning and cleaning up grape vines form this trellis. when I looked up - I saw this passion fruit. Earlier, I had already picked up a couple off the ground in a different location.
Did you know the easiest way to tell if a passion fruit is ripe?
Let it stay on the vine until it falls down - then, it is ripe.
The only problem is that critters might get it before you have a chance. but the best policy is to grow enough that there is plenty to go around.
Do you like passion fruit?
How do you eat it?

I've never been a great fan of passionfruit, although it always reminds me of my Nana and how much she enjoyed it. Too many pips, I've always thought, lol, but I do enjoy the flavour occasionally.
p.s: I hope you don't mind me adding this ...
As a radio show researcher for @pennsif, and so was wondering whether you might consider being a guest on his radio show, for a 15 minute slot? You may have had a bit of a discussion with him sometime last year about this already?

You can reply or find me on Discord (same name). Much appreciated. :D
In principle, yes. but I am having some internet issues right now and need to get those solved first. I will look for you on discord and we can stay in touch.
Thank you, I'll look forward to you finding me there. :)
Ya know, I learnt the ripening process. Thanks for educating me <3 Bless ya
Most people don't know that they are actually best when they look like they have wrinkles. When their skin is still smooth like in this photo - they aren't ripe yet.
I've never eaten passion fruit - I wonder what it tastes like! I live in growing zone 4a/4b, so I can't grow anything that can't survive -20°F to -30°F temperatures in the winter.
Arghhhhh. That is so cold!!! Yup. No passion fruit for you. But I bet you can grow tasty apples and such.
Yum! We've got lots of passion fruit on our land. Most of it's that same purple variety as you have pictured. Usually either wait for them to fall or pick them when they come off the vine easily. Love to eat them fresh or blended with pineapple, ginger, tumeric and water
That sounds like a great smoothie!! I like to eat them fresh as well and love them in smoothies. Do you add any fat for the turmeric to unfold its healing power?
No but now that you mention it I may start adding some coconut oil
the fruits are the fruits are fresh sour, very good for the juice soak.
I like to put them in smoothies :)
Yummy, I have had it with a sprinkle of salt. I'm not a big fan of salting my foods, but sometimes it is needed. What about putting some sort of netting across the top of the trellis? Or just part of it so the critters can still have some?
Netting is a pain in the you know where....
and rats can get to everything - they and possums like to harvest them... but we still get plenty :)
Oh very true. They were granted those little claws to help climb anything. We used to have to chase possums out of the chicken coop too. They can never turn down a good meal, kind of like Chozzy. :-)
I love them, I have some in pots and there are several growing wild around my yard. I just open them and eat the clusters seeds and all. 🙂
I do too. I thought you live in a much colder climate.
I'm in Alabama and we've had a cold winter 🙂
okay, that is considered the South right? And you don't really have cold winters. Now, it makes sense!
Make juice! Yuummmooo
I love passionfruit but have never seen the real tree, so I don't know how to tell if the freshly picked fruits are ripe
You can also too cheesecake, chilled dessert, even crepes filling, omg I'm drooling 😂
when I get a lot, I have to send you some!!!
