A lunar rainbow (also known as white rainbow or simply lunar arc1) is a rainbow that occurs by the refraction of light, in this case lunar, over a rain or night fog. The lunar rainbows are relatively tenuous, due to the scarce amount of light coming from the Moon. Like rainbows, lunar arcs are always on the opposite side of the sky from which the light of the moon comes
