Once in Thailand in December-March take a quick AirAsia flight from Bangkok to Udon Thani (about 1 hour) and you have a great opportunity to enjoy the beauty of Nong Han Kumphawapi Lake. Nong Han Kumphawapi Lake is only 40 minutes drive from Udon Thani City. Why this lake is so beautiful and interesting for tourists?

It is famous for red lotus flowers, which are blooming from December to March.

That is why Nong Han is also known as Red Lotus Lake (or Sea). One has to take a boat trip to see the flowers (they are in the center of the lake). This boat trip is about 1,5 hours and costs about 400 baht (for the boat, in 2017).

The lake is shallow (about 1 meter), but for the security reasons the boatman will give you lifejackets. During this trip you can take a lot of amazing photos. The boatman even stops the boat to give you an opportunity to examine flowers and take photos.

As it may be quite hot in the daytime, the best time for visiting is early morning (6:00 am) until 11:00 am.
