Telegram Plans to Launch its Own ICO

Startup Telegram is preparing to launch a crypto-based blockchain. The project will be initiated through an initial supply of currencies (ICO).

The Gram, which will act as the native currency of the Telegram Open Network (TON), will be integrated directly into the Telegram platform, allowing the platform to leverage the 180 million users of the application and avoid some of the difficulties associated with reaching a critical mass of users.

The news was first announced by TechCrunch, whose team reviewed Telegram's 132-page whitepaper.

The document describes the TON as a "third generation blockchain" consisting of a master chain and 2 others as the engine for the other 92 that accompany the blockchain.

"His most notable aspect is that he will have an 'Infinite Sharding Paradigm' to achieve scalability. Thus, TON's blockchains are intended to "separate and merge automatically to accommodate load changes". That would mean that new blocks are generated quickly and "the absence of long queues helps keep transaction costs down, even though some of the services that use the platform become very popular," the publication reports, citing the whitepaper.

Developers say TON can process 1 million transactions per second, which will keep transaction rates to a minimum and make Gram practical for micropayments.

Telegram wants to break collection records
The pre-sale of Telegram's ICO alone could reach up to $ 500 million, which is more than double the $ 257 million raised by Filecoin last year. Unlike most ICOs, the Telegram plans to require investors to contribute fiduciary currency, not with ether or bitcoin like most others. This can be a damaging factor.

In addition to its utility as a payment network, TON will also have a DNS service to allow users to access decentralized services with a web-like interface.

According to a roadmap published in the whitepaper, Telegram expects to launch a minimum viable product (MVP) as early as the first quarter of this year, although a full platform will not be released until at least the second quarter of 2019.
