Plagiarism
Plagiarism is the act of presenting another person's idea, thoughts,work etc as if it was your own work,by incorporating it into your work without fully acknowledging the real owner of the content. Plagiarism is a form of academic honesty violation and a breach of journalistic ethics
Types of Plagiarism
We have different types of plagiarism and they all has to do with the violation of academic hardwork and devotion. Plagiarism types include:
Direct plagiarism:
One is guilty of this type of plagiarism when he engages in a word-for-word transcription of a section or all of an author's work, without adding quotation marks to it or any form of reference. The interntional plagiarism of someone else's work is unproffesionall and a form of academic dishonest, and the offender should be disciplined according to the law.
Self Plagiarism
A student or author is guilty of this type of plagiarism when he submits the previous work he has done or engages in a word-for-word transcriptions of parts of his previous works, without taking permission from all Inspector(s) involved in the previous work.
Mosaic Plagiarism
This is a type of plagiarism where the writer borrows phrases from an author's work without using quotation marks, or apply words that are similar in meaning to the words used by the author while maintaining to the same general structure and idea of the original work.
Accidental Plagiarism
Accidental plagiarism occurs when a written student unintentionally paraphrases a source by the use of synonyms without attribution,neglects to cite his source(s),misqoutes his source (s).
Effects of Plagiarism
• when a professional business person, politician, or public figure is found guilty of plagiarism, they are likely be fired or asked to step down from their present position, but it may not be easy for them to obtain another respectable job. Their reputation is likely to be ruined making any kind of meaningful career impossible.
• A student found guilty of Plagiarism could be suspended or expelled from school thereby destroying the reputation of such student.
• Monetary repercussions..if a journalist, student or writer is found guilty of plagiarism,the original author of the work can sue the plagiarist.In this case, Monetary repercussions could be involve and the plagiarist will be asked to pay a specific amount of money to the original author of the work.
• Plagiarism hinders students from developing the skill of critical and creative thinking.it also makes students slothful.
Ways To Avoid Plagiarism
- Make sure to cite your sources properly.
- Present your own ideas by means of creative thinking and critical analysis.
- Use direct quotes
Citation
Citation can be defined as s formal reference to a published source that you incorporated in your research work. It is also important to know that You are not to cite your own ideas unless they have been already published.
Conclusion
The consequences of plagiarism is above any offender and no one is exempted. ignorance or stature can't excludes anybody from the legal punishments of committing plagiarism. Before trying to write any project, the writer must learn and understand clearly what plagiarism is all about. With the few points mentioned above, one can now understand clearly and see that the dangers of Plagiarism can never be over emphasized. Therefore, if one is to use an already published material, then that person must make sure to cite the original author properly.
