Working On: AniventureComicCon 2018
This is what I've been doing for the last five days... And it's not over yet. My job the previous weekend was to take photos of cosplayers and other guests at the AniventureComicCon 2018 Fest in Sofia, Bulgaria.
I was happy to meet a couple I learned of last year - Yehuda and Maya Devir - I would call them both artists and characters, no matter who does the drawing. Their teamwork on showcasing funny everyday situations of their life together has made them celebrities among comics fans. Their project is called One of Those Days. But you could find them even without the title. Try to Pinterest couples without running into them. How long would you survive?
So, despite being a photojournalist, I was hired to do something else - sit in a corner and take studio shots. A few hundred characters came to my corner and even the slight editing takes time in such quantities. Here's a small selection of them:

Wonderful photographs, very good costumes. In the past I could not imagine adults get dressed up as children when they have their costume party, but it is even more interesting how such event bring the childhood dreams back. I know that sometimes people even sewing their costumes themselves and book their tickets for such events in far advance. Lovely event and thank you for sharing with us. Thank you so much! I also enjoyed watching people being like kids for a while. You know, the festival atmosphere and the joy can be felt as a solid object around them. Of course, right now, getting close to photo number 600 I sometimes think bad of some of them. But that's just my exhaustion talking.
There's a tradition that includes scary costumes as that of the monster, it is something similar to Halloween but I happens a few weeks before Easter in Bulgaria. I will be sharing more of those.
I will be watching your blog, I love traditional art. My fiancee is an artist and I will be sharing more of her work soon. I already posted a report from her latest exhibition's opening about ten days ago.

The model and the black background scene that you created, it made the shooting looks great. And nice of you help with the shooting. I never take part in cosplay. But I did saw some cosplay event organized in my city. I love the yellow lady in the photos. She looks cute and funny. Black background compliment her yellow costume.

I bet it takes a long time to edit, especially when you have hundreds of subjects. Your shots are awesome!
Yes, about 30 working hours for the first 550 images. A mere 100 left for tonight and tomorrow.

Nice photos there @manoldonchev! Thank you for sharing your work with us. Love the catwoman, she stood out even with the black background. How did you make the background pitch black? I heard ComicCon is big everywhere and it is great that you get to be part of the event! Must have been an amazing display of cosplay costumes :)
Thank you! The cosplay show happens in another hall and my job is holding me elsewhere, alas. So I see only a part of the cosplayers.
Basically I use settings that detect no other light than that of the flashes. I try to not directly hit the background with any beams but some light still gets there so I should post edit. It is far from pitch black initially, but it is quite black. And If I were to use low key lighting setup, the background would disappear entirely.
Ah ok. Itsok, at least the cosplayers came to your studio corner for their photo shoots, it is as though the event came to you, so to speak :)
