Good video man. As someone that has been teaching in China for 4 years and had to learn Chinese, I agree that watching movies and shows without English subtitles can be very useful. I was watching a childrens TV show in China and I learned a whole lot. They don't speak too fast and the sentences are manageable.

However, as a language learner, there has to be an inspiration to want to become better at the language. I have had several students that are not academically inclined yet were some of the best English speakers in the class. The reason is because they really wanted to learn English. One student loves Taylor Swift and learned a lot of English because she follows all that celebrity stuff. Another student loves rap and hip hop so he would remember all the lyrics to many songs. In contrast, the lower level students barely showed improvement after several months despite learning English in class everyday.

Watching Japanese shows that interest you is really useful because you want to understand what is going on. But once you've absorbed this knowledge, you have to try and apply it as much as possible. Whenever I learn new Chinese words, I try to find a way to use that word. I will sort of guide the conversation I am having with someone just so I can use that word and that helps a lot!

Thank you for your long and detailed response! I really appreciate it @kenanqhd!
