In a Cashless World Gold Will Be Even More Precious.

In this report, I cover the early market from London on Tuesday, March 19th, 2019. I look briefly at the precious metals, the stock market, the dollar, the bond market and the price of WTI and Brent crude oil.

Today I look at the views of the man who hates cash and even wrote about it entitled "The Curse of Cash". Harvard economist Ken Rogoff recently wrote in the World Gold Council blog https://www.gold.org/goldhub/research/gold-investor/gold-investor-february-2019/the-curse-of-cash-and-the-allure-of-gold#disclaimer about how in a cashless world become an even more important monetary asset.

Even though I disagree with Dr. Rogoff's economic philosophy of big government, fiat money, and Central Banking I agree with him 100% that gold will be more in demand the more the world goes the cashless route. Rogoff notes that gold provides privacy, negates counterparty risk and helps diversification.

I do differ with him and his views on cryptocurrencies as I think there is a future for them just like there is for gold.

A famous argument I have such respect for is one that goes as such:

Stuck in the middle of a desert, pockets full of diamond and gold. You have not had any water in 4 days.
As you travel through this endless desert you come upon another wandering soul, who in return for your diamond and gold offers bottles of his water.

What do you do?

I think we as humans have become so dependant on ease of life and the widespread thought of what others would justify as having value, may not be the case in a wider aspect.

In a Mad Max world out perception of value would change completely so I agree with you to some extent. Our modern world has become very specialised and there are very few people who would be able to be self sufficient and survive in a Mad Max world.
