Is Patreon all it's made out to be?
Several people have come out to criticize Patreon lately, and I have been known to be critical myself, so I wanted to readdress it here with some thoughts.
What people don't like about Patreon
- Often times people are just swapping a dollar between friends, with Patreon taking a cut.
- In order to make any money on Patreon, you need to send THEM the leads - very few people are delivered by the platform itself.
- The cut Patreon takes does add up.
- It's yet another channel to provide content for and monitor for questions and comments.
- Most people who use it don't make much money at all.
What DO people like about Patreon
- It's a way to support content creators.
- It's easy to set up and use.
- The tools are good for what is needed.
- You are not getting paid to send people away (versus advertising) and it's less annoying.
- You can get physical addresses to send stickers, t-shirts, etc.
- It's like crowdfunding but without a deadline.
For people who are at Steemit looking for a source of income but are making like $0.3 per post, check it out as an alternative.
