ESP8266 Crypto Dashboard Update
In my last article I showed off my Bitcoin monitoring bot.
Since then I have added more currencies and also the USDCAD conversion rate. These are the numbers most important to me.
This is all possible from one REST API, api.coinbase.com.
Unfortunately for a combination of reasons I have to get each piece of data individually, but that's fine seeing as I don't need micro second freshness and they would ban for DOS attack level refresh rates anyway ;)
How it helps
A couple people have asked me why bother, outside of the technical challenge.
Well the hope is I can see dips and buy into them.
For example today I bought 0.01093171 BTC at $17,078.31 when I saw BTC drop below $17,000. I tried twice at $16,800 but Coinbase rejected both those, hence getting $17,078.31. That cost me $186.70 ($250 CAD, $10 fee).
At the time of writing BTC is now $17,471.12.
Of course that doesn't mean I made money. You only make profit when you sell. But you get the idea :)
My best friend's boyfriend officially beats you in terms of Cool-Raspberry-Pi-Usage, sorry bro XP
But Congrats on the setup !
one idea would be to make it so it detects abrupt changes of >100$ in a certain time frame and colors the information appropriately (red/green).
Like that it'd be even easier to spot a valley !
Heh well I saw BTC drop below $15k but Coinbase and Bitrex wouldn't allow me to buy. Finally got the sites to load when the price was back up over $16k :/
Agh.... the inconvenience of depending on exchanges I guess XS
Coinbase apparently integrated Bitcoin Cash now... the price is set as 0.00$ and the system is disabled... very good job on that integration Coinbase ! XP
