I am an electrical engineer. I will share my style of electrical work with you. I do electrical work most of my day. So, I'm participating in the engagement challenge using my electrical work style. There are various types of electrical work. There are residential electrical work, electrical substation work and industrial electrical work. I am in charge of three jobs in the company. Today, I started a very important job in industrial electrical engineering.
Power factor improvement panels are installed to reduce power wastage in industrial electrical. I set up our company's Power Factor Improvement (PFI). For PFI, I set up a meter with twelve stages between two types of meters. The stage of the meter is determined based on the electrical load. I set up the meter first. I studied the meter drawing for about an hour.
Then, I first turned on the PFI meter with a 220-volt supply, set the power factor value of the meter to 1, and set up twelve stages by pressing the display button on the meter. I then set the time from one stage to another stage and the amount of capacitors for each stage.
I set up the meter in the electrical panel with my electrical team. Then, I look at the drawing and supervise the cable connections. By looking at the meter drawing, if the connection is wrong, the meter will not work properly. So I work very carefully.
Then, I looked at the PFI meter drawing and connected each stage. The connection diagram is given on the other side of the meter. I determine the number of capacitors in each stage by looking at the diagram. The size of the capacitor is determined based on the load. The capacitors are of (12.5,25,50) KVAR.
PFI is one of the most important jobs for an electrical engineer in the industrial sector. Our engineers have a hard time comparing theory to PFI in practice. Because I had to learn much more about PFI when I studied theory than when I was in practice. Power supply companies set a standard value of PFI. It charges a large sum of money if it is less than the specified value. So, PFI is very important for an electrical engineer.
