Our Year Ended with Super Typhoon Rai/Odette || #Club5050

Good day beautiful women of Steem Women Club!
A strong typhoon recently entered the Philippines and brought tremendous damage in our infrastructures and livelihood.
My family and I were greatly affected by Strong Typhoon Odette on December 16, 2021. We celebrated Christmas with no electricity due to power outage. Majority of the electric poles collapsed. We have no network signal, no noche buena for Christmas.
We are still waiting for relief updates. We’re currently experiencing food and water crisis. Our island has become somewhat isolated from the rest of the areas in the Philippines. Communication is almost impossible due to broken network towers.
Morning after the superstorm struck, people were seen lining up at the grocery / convenient stores to buy their needs despite the broken glass walls and exposed goods. The stores were manned by just a couple of personnel. Other personnel were also greatly affected by the super typhoon.
It broke my heart seeing our situation. Some of my neighbors had their houses totally destroyed. My brother’s roof is completely ruined. This is a big challenge, especially to us, who have just lost our jobs when the pandemic hit the country. The economy has not recovered yet from the pandemic, and not another disaster struck the Philippines.
Our last supply of water has run out. We do not have the capacity to travel to other areas / islands in the Philippines to buy bottled water and we could not use delivery services either. As of now, some of us are patiently waiting for relief updates.
I couldn’t help but cry thinking of our situation and how we’ll be celebrating Christmas and New Year with nothing special on the table. Many people in our area have the worst situation right now, grieving for loss of property and even loved ones. But I have also seen more people and institutions initiating help. Perhaps we still have the Christmas Spirit and that should be enough for now.
