History states that during the reign of King Sena who defended Sri Lanka's independence, the king extended the Minipe canal and distributed the water of the Mahaweli River to the Mahakanadarawa tank. I firstly came here. The highway is on both sides of the canal. Stone wall built strongly for preserve main road and canal way.

Behind the canal scheme, awesome environment had. Knuckles Mountains in the Udadumbara, Medadumbara, Minipe and Panvila Divisional Secretariats is one of the main mountain ranges in the Kandy district. The Knuckles range from 3000 to 6500 feet in size, covering an area of 62 square miles. Knuckles Range, which is home to the endangered flora and fauna of Sri Lanka, is one of the highest natural ecosystems in the Kandy district and is a world heritage ecosystem.

Construction of the Minipe Anicut and the Dredging Canal began in 1980 and opened on April 9, 1983. It is a large canal that carries water from one river basin to another river basin.

I joined the canal to see the water flowing down the canal and onto the built bridge. Water waves so powerful and going down faster.

We slowly climbed to the top via concrete wall. Yeah.. that's amazing creativity of Sri Lankan irrigation industry. It would have cost a lot of manpower to do this.

(5.2 km - 7.8 km) Located between the Loggal Oya, (9.2 km - 14. km) and the Heppola Oya, (24.9 km - 25.9 km) the Diyapana Oya is the natural waterway of the Minipe. An engineer said that three small reservoirs have also been created at each site.
