So why would you want Linux instead of Windows?

First of all Linux is going to be FASTER than windows, and can even save older hardware you planned on tossing out, because Linux uses less system resources than windows.

Linux is an open source Operating System, you can dig into the Linux source code if you choose, try that with Windows or Macosx you Can't because they are closed systems.

Linux is alot more secure, and is not as vulnerable to attacks such as windows which seems to be plauged with attacks, and virsues of all kinds.

Now do not get me wrong Linux is not this magic full proof system that is 100% secure, but compared to windows if you are worried about security it is ALOT more secure than windows.

If you want to learn how to program Linux should be perfect for this, Linux supports basically every programming language you could ever want to learn.

The Terminal in Linux is way better than Window's old command line interface, this makes it alot easier to do the things you need to get done faster, especially if you are a programmer, or want to be a programmer.

Linux also tends to update far faster than windows, the security is very important, and as a result you might see more updates than you usually see on windows, and this is a Good thing for you.

You can fully customize Linux any way you want, make it your own, There are TONS of flavors of Linux out there however in this guide I will focus on my favorite, and In My Opinion the easiest Linux to use for a Beginner, or even Advanced Linux User.

I am talking about Ubuntu Linux !

Here is a photo of the Ubuntu homescreen to get you familiar with the setup.

Did I mention the best part about Linux IT IS FREE !

There is a huge community available to support you if you run into any problems, and it is much larger than the Windows community.

Linux is much more reliable than Windows, it does NOT seem to suffer from the slow downs you might experience on Windows, and does NOT seem to suffer from anywhere near the program crashes, and freezes experienced on Windows.

Do you value your Privacy? You will be glad to know Linux is I would say the most Privacy based OS on the market today, Unlike Windows where they basically want access to your entire life, you location, your email, your permission to access your camera, and microphone, hidden behind a personal assistant, and the list goes on, and on, and on.

SO without futher interruption lets get the Guide Underway ! Get a USB FLASH DRIVE READY! At least 8GB !

INSTALLING LINUX ON A PC ::WARNING:: ::THIS WILL ERASE ALL DATA ON YOUR COMPUTER::

Step 1 - Download and install RUFUS this is the program I prefer for making bootable flash drives of any type, any OS , etc I will provide a link.

https://rufus.akeo.ie/downloads/rufus-2.18.exe

Step 2 - Download the Ubuntu Operating System File ! Link Provided.

https://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop/thank-you?version=16.04.3&architecture=amd64

Step 3 - Plug Flash Drive into an Open USB port on your PC : Run RUFUS : Under device make 100% Sure it shows your USB Flash Drive.

Now down, and to the right you will see a drive logo with a disc on top beside of it, it will say FreeDos.

Click the Logo of the Drive with the Cd on Top of it

Now look where you downloaded the Ubuntu software, should be in your Downloads Folder, or wherever you selected to save the file.

Select the Ubuntu Software File

Click START this will begin making a bootable Ubuntu installation Drive!

If it asks to download additional files select YES and follow the instructions.

Once the Drive has completed, Leave the Drive inserted in the computer, Restart your computer, and BOOT from the new Ubuntu Drive.

Some Computers offer a shortcut such as Tapping F12, or F1, or ESC, you will have to know this yourself, about your specific computer.

Step 4 - Once the Drive Boots up, select INSTALL UBUNTU

I would recommend that you select the option for downloading updates while installing Ubuntu

I would also recommend you select the third party software box as well, this will save you time later on.

Step 5 - You should select Erase Disk, and Install UBUNTU.

If you want you can Encrypt for more security, and use LVM for snapshots and partition resizing easier in the future.

select INSTALL NOW

If/When it says "Write the changes to disk just select CONTINUE.

Now select what part of the world you are in, so the timezone can be set .

Select whatever Keyboard Layout you use.

Type in your Login information, and click CONTINUE..

UBUNTU will now be installed on your PC, and when its done you can get to checking out Linux OS for yourself.

Now start using it!

For sure, I just did a fresh install on an old laptop for fun, been messing around with it. I've not used Linux in a few years, seems just like what I remembered so much faster than windows also.

I have been using linux on the Virtual machine in a long time. I want to ask a question. How to install Kali Linux on the computer with USB memory, Kali only accepts cd. I need help and haven't a CD drive.

If Kali has an iso image file you should be able to make a bootable usb drive with RUFUS, just use this guide and instead of the Ubuntu image, use the Kali image. I have not used Kali myself so I am only guessing but its worth a shot if you have the kali image file, Rufus is a small download and would not take much time to try it out. Hope it works.
