“Everyone wants to be Cary Grant. Even I want to be Cary Grant.” —Cary Grant

Grant

Today I learned… Cary Grant was an LSD fanatic!

For those of who don't know who Cary Grant was… He was one of the most respected actors in Hollywood in the 1930's, 40's 50' and 60's… Referred to as "the epitome of elegance" this guy was definition of suave… and a good actor, too. Born in Bristol, England with the name Archie Leach.., and having an extremely difficult childhood -- his father left his mother and him when he was a very young boy and at the age of 10 he was told his mother was dead… But she was really committed to a mental institution. He ran away from home and wound up in Hollywood, by way of New York City!

His whole life he struggled personally… Having been divorced 4 times.., he still took the time to be an amazing father. Some say it was his struggle to find some kind of inner peace, that always alluded him, even though his career flourished… Having tried a number of things like yoga, meditation, hypnotism and even mysticism to no avail -- he turned to something a bit harder, in his search for peace…

Insanity runs in my family. It practically gallops. -- Cary Grant

So.., today I learned…

Cary Grant was a committed LSD fanatic -- who loved popping acid. But not as a party drug He was convinced LSD was the answer to all his problems… Being able to retreat to a world of inner peace whenever he tripped -- his pathway to God. In the early days of his LSD use.., he would try and get as many people as possible to try it -- it was, back then being used as a psychiatric drug. He spoke about how much he loved the drug in interviews with Time magazine and even Good Housekeeping -- and then, the Feds outlawed it.

Not being dissuaded but the law (I knew I liked him), he continued using LSD -- just not talking about it… He was sure it had changed his life for the better, so much so he quoted as saying -- "It was the best thing I've ever done."

He didn't start doing LSD until he was 55 years old.., with a Dr. Hartman, who was charging $100 a session… He was so impressed with the doctor and the drug -- he booked over 100 sessions -- that's quite a bit of acid for one of Hollywoods most referred leading men...

In a nutshell… It was an escape from the pain of his childhood and all the unresolved issues he had with his parents. And the many problems with his ex-wives… And who were the Feds to take that away from him.., or anybody else!

so interesting, who would have thought this about Cary Grant! I've heard that LSD, especially before it was cut with so many chemicals as it is today, could be a powerful healing agent. I have only taken it a few times but found that it opened up new pathways in my brain and was definitely an expander of the spirit.

Same here -- I've only tried a handful of times... But yes, many Hollywood types used to use it to expand perception and for personal insights into their own lives. Think John Lennon, Steve Jobs and of course Timothy Leery.

But Cary Grant...

I think that the good 'pl mushroom can do the same and at this point it's a better option if one ever wants a bit of expansion. I've thought about it but the right time hasn't arisen.

Cary Grant is the last one I would have ever expected to try LSD! I've never tried it myself but am curious about it and ayahuasca. Steve Jobs apparently tripped pretty often when he was younger. Nice read!

I know... Just look at that picture of him -- doesn't look like someone that swore by LSD!
Steve Jobs did a lot of LSD.
And Im pretty curious about ayahuasca, too. Sounds v-e-r-y interesting...

He doesn't look that way at all. Yeah, I'm sure they played down how much LSD Steve Jobs he did in his biography. A buddy of mine really wants to go down to South America and try ayahuasca but I've heard you really have to be careful where you go. There are a lot of people who are just in it for the money now. Like LSD it can be dangerous in the wrong environment.

Fascinating! For me it was much more stress than relaxing..., but I'm sure it was the environment.

Yeah... He went to nice Beverly Hills Dr. office.., and was in a safe and serene environment. No stress, at all. Cheers!

Sounds pretty sweet, I know... :))
