THE COMFORT OF STRANGERS…

The Comfort of Strangers...

Skating through life
on a wing and a prayer
never putting down roots
bouncing here to there

The norms of society
were of no interest at all
boring at best --
another chain and ball

Playing in the big leagues
flirting the time away
over tipping the waitress
was how he liked to play

Craving the night
sleeping by day
fueled by excitement
not some typical soiree

Surrounded by crowds
discovering new friends
getting high in the restroom
the fun never ends

Still wearing all black
as the sun cracked the dawn
sucking down coffee
with some new little fawn

Going through lovers
like a big revolving door
scribbling down numbers
expecting nothing more

Eventually it pales
the lights start to fade
alone in the darkness
your fabric has been frayed

Life in the fast lane
the road less traveled
takes it's toll over time
as you watch it unravel

And when it was done
his time in the sun
he relied his whole life on
…the comfort of strangers.
