DINNER FOR ONE…

Never really smiling, but in no visible pain.
He always had the fish..,
drank too much wine.
He wasn't very happy, always so benign.
But never reaching out, he was caught in-between.
Staring at the tables, the couples filled below.
Loathing all the laughter,
while he just ate crow.
But he screwed that all up, now he dined on despair…
Although he was lonely,
he accepted this fate.
Quietly just watching, as he finished his plate.
he wanted to fit in -- thoughtfully gazing..,
with an uncomfortable grin.
Remembering those moments, held close to his heart --
wondering in his mind, if he deserved a new start.
never understanding the cause of his plight…
Only to return the very next day,
hoping for some fun --
but quietly destined to.., dinner for one.

Uh. So sad. Very well framed.
Thanks @rubenalexander!
I'm not a fan of poetry, but this one is really good!
So, what fish he was eating?
Thanks for giving my poetry a chance, I appreciate it.
Believe it or not, it looked a lot like the fish you posted today -- but it was actually a Branzino. Every night he had the Branzino. Cheers!
Oh, so it was for real?
Nice!
I have to say -- it was a damn good fish!
I can imagine :D
This was a good one. We see some of these kinds of people at one of the neighborhood bars we frequent. They seem so grateful when someone takes the time to make conversation. Life can be very lonely sometimes!
Thanks @ericvancewalton... Yeah, I've seen quite a few of these types.., and I always try and take care of them and chat as much as possible. I'll even try to get them involved with some regulars -- but sometimes people just can't seem to pull themselves out of their shell. Cheers!
well done! I can imagine you've encountered so many lonely folks at the bar!
You definitely get to witness a lot of humanity standing behind a bar -- good, bad and everything in-between. Cheers!
