Originally from Chenôve in the Côte-d'Or department, Mark Karpelès proved to be a computer genius very early on. A gifted child, passionate about coding and manga, he is recognized by the geek community under the nickname Magical Tux. At the age of 24, he moved to Japan, learned the language within a few months and bought Mt.Gox, a card trading platform that uses bitcoin as a trading currency.
He decides to dedicate the site to the crypto currency, and makes it a reference in the matter of bitcoins exchange. The Mt.Gox empire collapsed in February 2014 as a result of a huge piracy where more than 500 million dollars were stolen.
