Travel in Disguise

in #travel8 years ago

As I vowed to myself and because a classmate was telling me to go to class. I finally commit to attend every classes for this and the following week. Despite that I am trying my best to attend all of my classes, during the break I still daydream of all the places I want to visit. Anyway, I will try to sit still and no sudden trip.

These days, I am busy with my school and have lesser time to post.Anyhow, today I am trying to make it up by telling couple of things I have seen while staying all night in 24 hr internet cafe and visiting an inauthentic Thai restaurant.

This was delicious inauthentic Thai Food I've ever eaten

For the most part, you will only find remarkable details about the place I am currently living if only you read thoroughly in my travel stories. I understand that I can sound cynical because I want my reader to know the world as I see it; the truth.

Anyway, to begin with, I used to think the world was in perfect order and everyone was following the rules. But eventually as I grow up, I think not every rules were made based on our agreement and somehow we were forced to follow it.

Do we ever have a choice to pick something different? Yes we actually do.But everything comes at price.

Then, What will happen if we were forced to conform to rules we don’t like? Perhaps, rebellion is going to be the answer.

Well, that night, I was sitting in the corner of the cafe staring at my laptop aimlessly. The corner is always my favorite spot. As through it, I can see everyone’s activity a bit more clearer. And I always purposely do this just like a man whom I met at the bar told me :

‘ I love sitting in the corner as I can see different kinds of human behavior. I purposely do this while sipping my whiskey then I will write it down. I am not a writer but I love to observe people’

That time, I wasn’t wearing my glasses and everything was a slight blurry. Until the clock struck 1 am and the place was less crowded than it was. In that moment, I saw a woman who was wearing a veil lighted up her cigarette. I was not sure of what I was seeing in front of me, so I picked my glasses and put it on. There, It was the first time I was seeing such and in a public area.

Is the veil indicates an oppression? I believe the answer will vary from one to another.

Is it also odd that I often find people who were pursuing religious study and coming from a conservative family have turned their back against what they had been taught?

Also, I always think that the way one dress represents oneself in a way, what do you think?

Those were the main three questions I had while I was sitting in the coffee shop that night. Then, I reflected to myself, to my peers and to people I know who have chosen a different path. What made them that way? What made me that way? What made people that way?.

The following day, I was attending a class and had a little chit chat with a classmate who was taking a travel writing course. Out of nowhere, our conversation was turning from travel stories to pyschological problems.

It was rare that only in about twenty minutes someone told me their struggles candidly. I was only nodding in agreement and soon became very chatty as that person struggle was similar to mine.

‘ My parents brought me to an exorcist’
‘ I know right, the cliche of talk to god’
‘ They also thought that our house was haunted because I would always lost my items. There was nothing supernatural, it was actually my forgetfulness’

‘ Do you know that it’s genetic?’ she yelled while riding the motorbike in a busy road
‘ uh I guess’ I answered in hesitation
‘ good, good because then you know, you’ll also have a fucked up child but at least you know how to handle it’ she explained while I was just being quiet.

Long short story, we decided to eat Thai food while still trying to play matching game of our daily struggles. As we reached the restaurant, we ordered tom yum seafood which was very delicious to our taste bud. Perhaps if we know the authentic one, we’ll have different opinion.

I also ordered a green baked seashells with sweet and spicy sauce. It was a better version that I normally and a bonus, it was very affordable . This is what you can get for just about 3$

Then, I spotted a bizarre drink made up of bird nest with honey in the refrigerator. I decided to have it. The taste, if you ever tasted aloe vera then it’s very similar.

So, that's why I call my journey as " backpacking my way and learning about life"

If you have any answer regarding to my question, feel free to leave a comment.

She's right about the kids... At least you know what is going on.

Be sure to track the number of days you're not in class. You can rebel against the rules... You can also lose the game.
