Food Tour : Dine in With a Budget Around Bukit Bintang

in #food6 years ago (edited)

When you wander try to immense in the culture.

Food tour is essential when you're wandering in a foreign land. It's part of the whole activity that you shall not miss. That being said, food can be one of the way to introduce a foreigner to new culture. Thus, I always make sure whenever I am on the road; I have to to try the local and its authentic food.

Breakfast amidst vibrant spot in Bukit Bintang

It was about 8 am when I decided to get out from my hostel and stroll around the area. I wanted to actually visit a museum but I dropped the plan since it was too much of work to get around. So, I decided to just check around within a couple of blocks. I wasn't really hungry but I found a nice place which is located in one complex with Fahreinheit88.

They have shiny interior with diverse collection of wine hanging on its bar table. It also has transparent installment that let the visitors see through a hip spot in Bukit Bintang; A walkaway that connects couple of Mega Mall in the area. If you prefer to dine in outside the glass house, there are couple tables with patio umbrella that gives you a perfect vibrant atmosphere of the area.

That time, the waitress chose a table nearby the entrance/exit door that lets me see straightly through the walkaway.

Moving on to their menu, they have extensive choices ranging from western to local cuisine. I decided to order English breakfast tea and nasi lemak.

It was my second time trying Nasi Lemak. The chicken meat was tender, crispy and flavorful. Having to eat chicken so often, I can say it was the best I've ever had by far. And the tea was exceptional, it wasn't too bitter than I normally have back home. For this fancy set up, 31MYR(8$) was worth every penny spent.

If you're staying in Bukit Bintang, they're not difficult to find

Address: Fahrenheit 88, Lot G43 (01) & Lot G43 (02) Ground Floor, Malaysia, Bukit Bintang Street, 55100 Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Lunch inside a maze mall Lot 10

I was bored after exploring the place on my own and decided to go back to my hostel. I logged in to discord and asked around Be awesome server. There @churdtzu was online and told me to visit a vegetarian restaurant located inside Lot10. I was glad I followed his recommendation that made me in love with vegetables which were served there.

It was rather surprising seeing myself enjoying fresh raw vegetable since they made it interesting. It was beyond my expectation to taste vegan meal. I ordered something familiar to my taste bud. A sushi roll and tom yum noodle soup.

For a better menu list check out Mysimplelifemenu

This was the meal I ordered, seaweed rolls, mix juice ( chia seed, fresh lemon +honey) and a tom yum food.

I would say it's still a little greasy for a standard of healthy food.Anyhow, if you pick the seaweed rolls, it was a mixture of fresh and crunchy vegetables. Everything was filling that made me ready to began my adventure.

Their meal is better for sharing since the portion was a bit too much for one person. I spent about 41 MYR (10.9$)tax included. I recommend to split the cost with a friend if you're not going alone; it's cheaper that way.

For a first timer, finding this place is quite a challenge but I have an ultimate tip

Simply enter through H&M and they're located in the second floor. It is right in front of it.

Desert in lot10 Hutong

After an exhausting walk because I couldn't find a way out from H&M, I found myself wandering in an underground Asian market. I was like

' Where the heck am I?'

Later I found through google,

Lot 10 Hutong is a Malaysia's first and only heritage destination that pays tribute to one of the best loved national treasures - good food and the art of local cuisines. Intro to Lot 10 Hutong

There was a girl speaking to me in mandarin offering me something from her display window. This is funny. Everywhere I go, I was mistaken as either Malaysian, Chinese or a Filipino. They only realized that I am neither when I said I don't speak those languages.

Long short story, I ordered something they called a tiramisu but I am sure below it isn't a tiramisu.

.

I especially love the mixture of the ice cream and different kinds of peanuts. It was sweet and a perfect dessert after an exhausting day. It costs almost the same for a desert back home 12MYR ( 3$) but it was a bonus since their interior and service was excellent.

Quick Dinner at Jalan Alor

Right after I finished meeting @nomadicsoul, I went back to my hostel and sat in the common room. There were couple of dorm mates who were browsing and reading a magazine. I greeted them and we began our conversation. Within 20 minutes, a guy was asking me if I was hungry and whether I wanted to eat a satay. he assured me that the place was nearby so I decided to go with him.

' How far is it?' I asked

' About couple of meters' he said confidently

Little did I know, It was rather far from what I thought. I tried to match his pace since he walked faster than I was. Perhaps every tall guy walked faster? I didn't know.

He took me to a very crowded place where I got anxious instantly. I normally don't like too crowded place especially I was out of my anxiety medication. It was really awkward but we managed to have a little nice deep shit conversation. We ordered a delicious satay and decided to split on the meat since it was half beef, half chicken.

The meat was very tender with its sweet and spicy sauce. The cut was bigger than I normally have back home. Other than that, I ordered a dim sum and he ordered a strawberry juice, a huge one. I will make sure next time, I will also order that big strawberry juice.

Along the way, we stopped seeing this unique satay vendor and decided to talk about food culture and asian food in the states.

I forgot how much I spent in Jalan Alor. All I remember, it was roughly about 15MYR(3,84$).

Jalan alor is no fancy place but It's a great place for a casual dine in especially this is a vibrant area. Kindly reminder, there will be couple of sellers approaching you but that's okay; you can politely say no.

That concludes my food tour around Bukit Bintang. If you happen to be in the area, you can try several of my recommendations.

Cheers to many more flights,
