General Elections 2024 in Pakistan

Pakistan became independent in 1947, after a terrible war. Since Pakistan got independence, 16 elections have been held. The first electron took place in 1954, when Pakistan was not so stable and that was an indirect election. The Muslim League had won in that, which was made up before the division of Hindustan. The next elections were held after 8 years in 1962, even then the situation in Pakistan was not better and Pakistan became stable in 1970, and then the first general elections took place. Since then 10 elections have taken place, and during this time many parties have been formed. Recently, elections were held in 2018, one year before Corona, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf(PTI) had won.

Pakistan has a parliamentary system, in which the Prime Minister or President and the Senate and National Assemblies are elected through public voting. The candidates who get the maximum number of votes in direct elections are made members of the National Assembly. The National Assembly is also called the Provincial Assembly and it is divided into 4 provinces. There are 336 seats in the National Assembly, and each province has a different number of seats.

These are general elections, so 266 seats will be elected now in 2024. The total population of Pakistan is 242,828,767, out of which 127,415,319 are registered voters. This is the biggest election of Pakistan because biggest public vote has been cast.

The election of 2024 is held on 8th February. Elections have been going on for 4 days now as the result has not been announced yet, un-official result has been released but no confirmed result has come yet. Some people are saying that rigging is taking place, that is why the results were not announced. Because the current government is losing the elections, maybe that is why they are delaying the results. The result has come. But it is not complete yet nor is it confirmed. The result is up to 90%, in which independent are on the top, I shall explain you parties later in this post. Let me tell you a little that this time PTI was destroyed and all their candidates stood independent. The results that have come so far are present in the picture below.

Parties and their Positions in 2024 Elections

This time in Pakistan, 13 parties have participated in the elections. And there were top 3 parties among them. Well, in the last 3 elections only these 3 parties have been on top and there is a lot of difference between them and the other parties. Other parties are able to win very few seats.

• PTI-backed Independents

  Pakistan Tehrek-e-Insaf(PTI) was controlled by Imran Khan but due to some circumstances he will be jailed or he will not be able to handle the party or the opposition eliminates the symbol of party in some court case. This party had won the last election. But it was removed from the government in 2022 by opposition, when all the other parties combined. And this time in the elections, due to the absence of the symbol of this party, they candidates had to fight to be free or independents. This party was abolished, but because of the leader of this party, a large number of people still supported this party. Every candidate got a different symbol and they all fought with their new symbol. This time the result is still very good for this party, and at the top of the table. Their plan is to include all the candidates who won in the new party. This party is very strong in KPK province have won almost every seat in many elections.

• PML-N

  The leader of Pakistan Muslim League-N is Nawaz Sharif. Nawaz Sharif was jailed and then on the pretext of illness he had gone out of his native place, and now when his government is in power, he has come back again. This time Nawaz Sharif is contesting the elections and he has another brother Shahbaz Sharif who is a part of the party. Or a daughter named Maryam Nawaz also in his party. PMLN has won in 2013 elections but they can't competes their government. This party has great impact in Punjab province. PMLN is governing now and they got this when all parties joined together.

• PPP

  Pakistan People's Party is controlled by Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. This party is very old since 1967, 5 times they won general election. First leader of this party was Zulafqar Ali Bhutto after the dead of Bhutto then it goes to Benezir Bhutto. After the murder of Benezir, the party was controlled by husband "Asif Ali Zardari" and now by his son Bilawal. This party has an great impact in Sindh provinces, In every elections they won from Sindh. It's the third great part in Pakistan nowadays.

Position of parties

As you that this is the biggest elections in Pakistan. 13 parties are taking part or other are independents. The unofficial results of elections 2024 are PTI(Backed Independents) have won largest no. of seats in national assembly(NA). They won 94 seats as independents yet. They are on the top of table and then PMLN has won 2nd largest seats, they won 75 seats yet. PPP has won 54 seats in NA, or they the the 3rd largest party. The remaining seats are won by different parts, some of them are in double figures. MQM-P has won 17 seats and 4th largest party. Other independents who are not with PTI have won 9 seats. JUIF has won 4 seats in NA. PML has won 3 seats in NA. Or 2 others parties BAP, they won 1 seat. NP has won also won 1 seat..

This is the actual result of this elections so far but some region results are remaining, 259 seats result have been announced only 7 seats are remaining to announce the result. The result is delaying day by day due to some reasons. You can check the results in table below:

Punjab

Punjab is the heart of Pakistan and very large in population. Punjab has more seats than all others. There are 173 seats in Punjab province. In Punjab, PLMN has been dominating for years but PTI is trying to get place of PMLN. PMLN has won most of the seats in Punjab in the 2024 elections. PMLN is on top of the table, have won 136 seats including MNA or MPA. PTI is on 2 and have won 113 seats. It's very good or PTI now because they are getting votes from different regions of Pakistan. Other independents rather than PTI have won 22 seats. PPP has won only 10 seats from Punjab. TLP, PMLZ, ISP have won 1 seat for each. Some of results are remaining.

Sindh

Sindh has many seats of MNA and MPA. There are 75 seats in Sindh province. In Sindh, PPP has been dominating for years no one can defeat them now in this province. PPP has won most of the seats in Sindh in the 2024 elections. PPP is on top of the table, have won 83 seats including MNA or MPA. PTI is on 3 and have won 11 seats. It's very good or PTI now because they are getting votes from Sindh. MQMP has won 27 seats. Other independents have won only 3 seats from Sindh. JUIF, JIP, GDA have won 1, 2, 3 seat respectively. Some of results are remaining.

KPK

PTI has hold in KPK. There are 55 seats in KPK province including MNA OR MPA. In KPK, PTI has been dominating for years no one can defeat them now in this province. PTI has won most of the seats in KPK in the 2024 elections. PTI is on top of the table, have won 79 seats including MNA or MPA. Other Independents rather than PTI or JUIF is on 2 of the table and have won 7 seats. PMLN has won 5 seats. PPP have won only 4 seats from KPK. JIP, PTEI, PTEIP, ANP have won 3, 2, 2,1 seat respectively. Some of results are remaining.

Balochistan

Balochistan is for all parties and have almost equal powers for every party . There are 20 seats in KPK province including MNA OR MPA. In Balochistan, PPP has been dominating in this province. PPP has won most of the seats in Balochistan in the 2024 elections. PPP is on top of the table, have won 11 seats including MNA or MPA. PMLN has won 9 seats and in 2 of table JUIF has won 8 seats. Other Independents rather than PTI have won 5 seats.. BAP have won only 4 seats from Balochistan. JIP, BNP, BNPA, ANP, NP. have won 1, 1, 1, 2, 3 seat respectively. Some of results are remaining.

Conclusion

The conduct of elections does not mean rigging. The real meaning of elections is to elect the right government. The elections are being conducted for the betterment of the natives. We are the ones who brings a Prime Minister for our own needs. We have to choose a right one, who can help us in various ways. We have power to elect our leader. If we don't focus and with other's thoughts we vote to a bad one we would got problem for ourselves. Stay active to elect people.
