The Craigmore Viaduct also known as 18 Arches, Northern Ireland. The highest one reaching about 38 meters.

Why are you working? It is what people are supposed to do? That’s the system. We work. Some people are fortunate to work on things they love and some do things because it is the way to get by. Some people work to support their families. To survive. To be secure in the system. Some work on things so that they never need to work again or so that they can work on things they love in the future.

Let’s say you were given a million or a billion. Would you just sit around all day, sipping margaritas on a beach? How long til you would get bored out of your fucking mind? Vacationing til the end of life. Bleh. What a waste. Yet that is what most people would describe when entertaining the idea of that “freedom” anyway.

Then imagine the future where there will be no necessity for people to work all. All will be provided for us, lazy chimps entertaining ourselves perhaps not even to death because by then who knows where the technology will take us. What’s left for us when all is given? Degradation. Most likely on a large scale since there would be no real motivation to do anything other than satisfying our primal needs.

There was a time Elon Musk had a choice to buy an island and live happily ever after doing absolutely nothing or to invest all his fortune and time in building companies he thought most definitely would fail, but could potentially solve some real issues and inspire billions of people.

I hope one day to have the freedom to build something of my own. It may not solve humanity’s problems, but still.

Song of the day: Muse - Aftermath

The photos where we're looking up from the bottom of the arches are exceptionally beautiful; I just love the natural gradient of the shadows. They're my favourites in this set, I think, but I also love the ones you shot through the trees and think they might be my favourites too. Thanks so much for sharing them.

Everyone should love what they do for a living. It is not fair that most don't. Every day one of us spends doing something we do not love in exchange for money is a tragedy.

I have a dream that one day we will be free from the concept of the day job. But it will not descend into mindlessness degradation. We are better than that. Sure, there are many consumers in the world and they will be free to mindlessly consume to their monkey brains' content. However, think of all the creators who are locked up in full time jobs they hate, who would then be free, all the time, to create anything they could ever imagine. I think it would launch us into a new golden age of individuality and expression... if we could get it right, and make sure that the benefits of this mass unemployment are properly distributed to everyone in the society. That's a big if, I guess.

I share your disinterest in the "permanent vacation." Maybe it is for some people, but not for me. If I didn't have to worry about money, I would still work... but not from an office. I'd work from wherever I was visiting in the world at that moment in time, and I would work whenever I wanted and however long I wanted, and I would work on free software that benefits everyone. And finally, I could be free of this concept of home that I have grown to hate so much. There's just far too much out there that I haven't seen, for me to be happy calling anywhere home.

Thank you, lem! The process of figuring out angles and even the editing was really enjoyable :)

If everyone is supposed to do what they love, then unfortunately there is a lot of tragedy in this world. Sometimes I think that people are not even given a chance. It is like they hope someone would give them an opportunity and guidance, but instead they are just ignored, deemed incapable when that is not the case.

Yes, creators would flourish. However, sometimes with too much freedom and lack of structure people end up wasting time procrastinating, all over the place. I can tell from my own experience of taking one year break from working. Only thing I regret about it is my own inability to structure time. Then again, maybe all that floating around in the chaos is part of my creative process. Not sure.

Permanent vacations are for NPCs :D

Permanent vacations are for NPCs :D

That line broke my vote slider.

If everyone is supposed to do what they love, then unfortunately there is a lot of tragedy in this world.

Well, what is the alternative? Is it good for people to be miserable for a vast majority of their useful hours of their life? Fuck no. It is a damned crying shame. I don't blame people for putting their creativity aside to find stability but, yes I think it is tragic as hell, and in the case of creatives, it is doubly tragic because not only is that person not getting to create, the entire world is now missing what they could have created :(

Then again, maybe all that floating around in the chaos is part of my creative process. Not sure.

Maybe your life is your creative process. So you could be right and wrong at the same time. You probably draw creative inspiration from your whole life, no matter what you are doing. Or maybe I am just trying to make myself feel better about knowing you're right. The fact is, I get the same amount of stuff done when I don't have to work. I think I need to start actually planning my weekends and structuring them, because as much as I love that sort of "floating around," I do not think it really does me any favours, at least not for my particular brand of creation.

It's all right if you own the island you are sipping the cocktails on. Some great photos m31 and I am sure you will build something that will matter to you.

Ahaha! Only if it is whale shaped island.

Thank you @cryptoandcoffee :) In my mind forever now I see a place I want to build. What's in question is how to get there. Will see.

My favourite by far.

Drinking margaritas on beaches is for pussies with no imagination.

Somehow I had the feeling you would love that one out of all of them. I am pretty happy how it stacks up in three parts :)

Exactly, lol

I am easy to read in some things. Some other things I am an enigma... not really.

I think that the sipping margaritas on a beach scene is only good for a movie or tv show finale and no way for real life. On the other hand being able to built stuff is nice but it is not what it is all about. Musk may be the happiest or the unhappiest man on the planet and his billions have nothing to do with it. My humble opinion, that is :)

I don't think he cares much about happiness of unhappiness of his own. He wants to be useful and to leave something for his own sons. If he wanted to happy he would not drain himself the way he has for great many years now.

We all choose our path, one way or another.

Probably doing nothing and having millions of $ would be good for 2 years but after that boredom will start. With this kind of money I would probably upgraded my equipment and do what I love the most and trying to make living out of it.
By the way, I like your perspective in making photos and details that you captured.

Yeah. Is there really wonder why so many wealthy people are actually depressed? Is it a blessing or a curse? I guess it can be both. It is even worse for those who can't hide their wealth, other people manipulate and use them.

Thank you @miroslavrc :)

This is beautiful, @m31.

We're all being sold for the "dream" that by working enough we could, too, be sipping margaritas on a beach. It is to keep us doing the things we hate in the hopes of reaching that fulfillment in the future which we will never reach in any other place than here and now.

Thank you @celestal!

It is not a dream, it is a lie indeed. I think fulfillment actually has nothing to do with being wealthy. It is our own state of mind and understanding what is it that we would like to accomplish with our own lives instead of what society keeps pushing on us such as - get married, get kids, house, car, cat and dog, slave til the grave, lol (it is ok if people actually want that too, not saying it is not ok)

slave til the grave, lol

Damn, sick rhymes, yo. Maybe you should call yourself MC31 :P

That is life, I believe that we study, then work, many in the beginning do because their parents guided them, and many of those may be unhappy as they fulfilled their parents wishes but not happy themselves. I believe just to lay on beach and enjoy sun with billions on your account this is not for me either. But luckily I have my work, that I really love and enjoy, although some days I am totally drained out and just fall asleep once I am home, but that no matter, next day I am fresh and ready for the next day.

I like your idea of creating something yourself, of course this is a great step and it may take you a lot of time, that will be your project, your "baby" that require full time from you. But once "baby" growing and getting on its feet, then you are rewarded for that hard job. Good luck and never stop dreaming.
Beautiful picture of that bridge, majestic and so high, love it!

These are some stunning shots @m31, the last two are amazing! Well done!

Aww, thank you @erikah ^^There is a pathway right through them and lot of people go for walks there. If someone saw my process there, they probably thought I was a little nuts, lol

Hahaha, I know what you mean, I'm often kneeling down to photograph flowers and people look at me with strange eyes :))
