A Merry Little Christmas

Christmas time has always been a little bittersweet for me. Some say that little ones understand nothing of adult life. My dad passed away when I was four years old. My mom worked three jobs to just pay bills, put food on the table and to dress me and my sister. We were poor. I understood it very early.
It did not pain me not to get tons of toys or coolest clothes. I was actually very happy child with great imagination all things considering. Seeing my mom not happy or sad about not being able to provide more for us did hurt. She tried to hide it, but I always saw through her. Cheering her up was then my secret task and when she would ask me what I wanted for Christmas I would say nothing or once I asked for tiny rabbit plushy I still have to this day.
My mom loves poetry and she used to read a lot for us. Her favorite Christmas poem/song is “Circenīša Ziemassvētki”. It is about a little, poor boy and his mom singing to him. The little boy was hungry and crying, but they did not have any food, so they were trying to go to sleep. Mother tells him a story of how they take their kitty and travel to the Moon. I can never finish that song without crying, even now.
Christmas is not about gifts or other material things. You know?
Song of the day: Instrumenti - Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas (Have a look ^^)
Thought of the day: Being humble and kind
Tiny happiness of the day: Running again
Yes, humility and kindness are endless... As artists, @m31, we're lucky we have words and imagination to keep us company through our suffering or deprivations.
Here's a little ditty I wrote that I try to remember when I'm feeling blue...
I've been lavishly gifted a pain
as thick and rich as oil paint
By pushing it round the page
I've learned to make Art
Thank you @yahialababidi! :) Indeed. I use all those emotions a lot to create and turn negative energy into something positive in words or art, or whatever it might be I manage.
Lovely lines there :)
Good for you, my friend, Art on _/|_
It doesn't take much to be a parent, just the willingness to do all you can.
I work so if something happens to me, she will have more than a song. But, if all there is is a song, it will be the one I have sung for her every day since she has been with us.
Thank you for sharing that @tarazkp! ♡
I don't know if I will have children some day, but I know that if I did, I would be amazing mom because I have seen that willingness and fight to do all you can. The most important thing is to simply love them.
Christmas should be about loving each other, not consumerism. We live in a sad sad time..
@julienbh Thank you! Could not agree with you more! When I think about Christmas I always remember people and fun we had together. Things don't really matter.
It would be really nice to see a picture of the plush rabbit. What a lovely story about Christmas, and what we should really be thinking about instead of what marketing people want us to think about!
Thank you for stopping by @plushzilla! It is really unfortunate how Christmas has become about consumerism, everywhere you go, on every corner someone is trying to sell you something and place ideas in your mind that you need things. So silly that we fall for that trap as well.
Merry Christmas to you! :)
Happy Christmas
Thank you! Merry Christmas to you too! :)
