Per la serie Unforgettable Italy oggi vi voglio parlare della mia città natale: Cesena. In Italia abbiamo talamente tanti posti belli da visitare ammirare che non ci rendiamo conto di quanto possano esser belli anche gli stessi posti in cui abitiamo.

Oltre a possedere la biblioteca Malatestiana patrimonio UNESCO (lascio il link al sito per i più curiosi http://www.comune.cesena.fc.it/malatestiana-antica), e ad avere una Rocca che risale all'età medioevale (la Rocca Malatestiana http://www.comune.cesena.fc.it/musei-e-gallerie/rocca-malatestiana) Cesena ha anche una Abbazia, la Abbazia di S.Maria del Monte.

L'Abbazia è situata proprio in cima ad un monte che domina Cesena, ed è possibile scorgerla da lontano, come un faro che sovrasta la città. E' possibile raggiungerla anche a piedi, e sono vari i percorsi per raggiungerla. Dal quartiere in cui abito, la salita per raggiungerla dura circa 45 minuti, duranti i quali è possibile scorgere un bel panorama sulla città.

Le origini della Abbazia si pensa risalgano al 1001, periodo in cui era presente una comunità benedettina. In questi 1000 anni di storia (mille!!!) Le vicende che ha vissuto l'Abbazia e i suoi abitanti sono state molteplici: incedi, terremoti, invasioni e guerre. Ma l'Abbazia è sempre stata ricostruita e ancora tutt'oggi rimane simbolo della città, della sua cultura e della sua spiritualità.

For the series Unforgettable Italy today I want to talk about my hometown: Cesena. In Italy we have so many beautiful places to visit and admire that we don't realize how beautiful even the places where we live can be.

In addition to having the Malatesta Library, a UNESCO World Heritage Site (I leave the link to the site for the more curious http://www.comune.cesena.fc.it/malatestiana-antica), and to having a fortress that dates back to medieval times (the Rocca Malatestiana http://www.comune.cesena.fc.it/musei-e-gallerie/rocca-malatestiana) Cesena also has an Abbey, the Abbey of S.Maria del Monte.

The Abbey is located right on top of a mountain that dominates Cesena, and you can see it from afar, like a lighthouse overlooking the city. It is also possible to reach it on foot, and there are various routes to get there. From the neighborhood where I live, the climb to reach it takes about 45 minutes, during which you can see a beautiful view of the city.

The origins of the Abbey are thought to date back to 1001, when there was a Benedictine community. In these 1000 years of history (one thousand!!!) the events that the Abbey and its inhabitants have experienced have been many: fires, earthquakes, invasions and wars. But the Abbey has always been rebuilt and still remains a symbol of the city, its culture and its spirituality.
