Snake...Yikes...not so much!
Today I saw my first snake of the 2019 season. Out here in Southeastern Arizona I treat every snake as if it is a rattler, however this was a false alarm. He is a Sonoran Gopher Snake. i would guess him to be about 5-5 1/2 feet. No problem he eats rodents. He is welcome here, but not at the door!
I have a Yellow Lab as my outside dog. Today was a little warm so he was in the house with me. He came to me wanting out. We went to the kitchen door and I handed him a biscuit and turned the door knob. I stopped in my tracks, YIKES!, as I saw this guy through the glass of the door. He was just hanging out looking inside.
At the same time, I have a mated pair of Peregrine Falcons the have been my spring residents for the last seven years that we’re going wild screaming at the snake. I guess, if you’ll pardon the pun, I run an “Air” B& B. Lol.
I guess the falcons were afraid that the snake could get their eggs or young in the nest. I haven’t heard the fledglings yet so they’re probably still eggs. Not sure.
Any ways, long story short, I grabbed my trusty snake tong stick and carried the snake off to the back 40.
But wait, there’s more! He came back within the hour. So I grabbed him up and carried him to the furthest part of the property. Haven’t seen him back, but there is still tomorrow.
Thanks for taking the time to read my ramblings!
