Having fun outdoors

in #photography8 years ago (edited)

Another day with freezing temperatures! It feels like spring is a long forgotten dream. Although February is almost done, we still have lots of snow.

Canadian winters are nothing like in Europe, where the cold season does not last more than two or three months.

Today we had a warmer day if I could say that. The thermometer showed only 16 degrees Celsius below zero. It looked like a good day to go sliding with my boys.

Thus we got equipped and headed towards the closest park with slopes. We were surprised to see that it was almost empty. Usually during the week-end there are plenty of kids and parents playing, sliding.

The few kids present there, left shortly after we got there. We had three slopes to chose from. My son was excited to slide down for the first time on the real slope and not one for toddlers.

A few days back we had freezing rain. If you look at the ground, you'd notice the thick layer of ice on the path.

After climbing the hill for more than a dozen times, he got tired. It was the perfect time to leave the park and go have dinner.

He could not refuse my offer of having a portion of poutine (a specific Quebec dish consisting of French fries with cheese and gravy) and a hot chocolate drink in his favourite poutinerie.

This poutine was with veggies, supposedly a healthier choice.

How did you spend your Saturday?

It is beautiful photo and story! I remember that I visited several times Canada. Vancouver, Victoria Island.. Thank you for reminding me the good memory! upvoted

Canadian winters are long. Like 6 months of snow long, where I'm at. lol! And we've had a ton of snow this year. Best thing is to get out and play in it, if you can. Looks like you had fun! :)

Montreal is the same. Only problem is me and the cold, we don't really get along. Because of my Lyme, my bones ache and I can't spend too much time outdoors.

That's no fun. I don't like to be in the cold as much as I used to. Once upon a time I lived for snow, and sliding down mountains. Now I'd rather cozy up to the wood stove. ;)

What a great day!! ;-)

@lymepoet, thanks for sharing your adventures. I have not been sliding in a long time. Looks like I will miss out this year, but look forward to it when the opportunity presents itself.

As much fun that would have been, I didn't slide either. I just watched my boys having fun.

I really miss these views and weather when i was in the uk. Now im in malaysia its sunny and rain the whole year long.

I rather take the rainy season and the biting cold. ;0)

Oh, it looks so lovely and peaceful. I am glad you enjoyed yourself.
Over here, at my place, it has been snowing for a couple of days I got so happy about it but then it started melting because the temperature got up. Now, the temperature has gone down and all that melted water became ice... I am missing snow... :D

We had freezing rain and for almost a week. It was insane to go outside. Everything was covered in ice. So many people got hurt and ended up in the hospital with broken limbs.

So glad you and your kids had a great time sliding followed by a nice dinner. The pics are making me freeze brrr. :)

Thank you for stopping by. We're anxious to get spring in here.

My day was busy with the family and grandkids Cool out but nicer that it has been and nothing like there

That food looks great after being out in the cold
