My Experience in brief at a Genomics and Bioinformatics Workshop

in #steemstem7 years ago

I spent three weeks for a hands-on training on Bioinformatics and genomics at African Biosciences Institute - the experience was fascinating.

Bioinformatics involves the development and application of computational tools in managing all kinds of biological data
• involves the technology that uses computers for storage, retrieval, manipulation, and distribution of information related to biological macromoleculates such as DNA, RNA, proteins and metabolites
• generally limited to sequence, structural, and functional analysis of genes and genomes and their corresponding products
• sometimes called computational molecular biology

This field has developed over the past decade or so to help manage the huge increase in data generated by genome sequencing projects, highthroughput technologies etc.

The training was holistic and covered keys areas of the topic. I had the privilege to meet and connect with other researchers and scholars in the life sciences.

During this period, I realized Nigerian scientists faced several challenges with conducting qualitative and contemporary research. The government needs to allocate more funds towards innovative research for sustainable economic development

I enjoyed the tea breaks as it afforded me the opportunity to interact with other scientists about their research.

I hope to attend more of such trainings in the future in other to build my capacity to contribute towards national development.

Dude this is freaking awesome! I have touched Biomedical Sciences and through that view, I can appreciate this. Congratulations to you! GO YOU.

Thank you very much @varignon - also for resteeming my posts..I'm very appreciative and much obliged.
Tell me about your experience in biomedical sciences if you dont mind :)

I only studied for one semester in Biomechanical Engineering. There wasn't much exposure, just to lab work, which was so cool - felt like a scientist genuinely. I sort of love to study nature and how its created things. It is the best form of engineering the world could ever see, that's why I enjoy the biomedical field in a sense. I believe there's an herb for every problem.

Wow!!! That's quite amazing - I have a new bestie on steemit. It would be nice to meet you in person ..lol

It definitely would be something else! Where are you from?

Akwa Ibom, Nigeria. you?

That's amazing! Mansfield Ohio, US. What a wonderful tool

Hello @luxx, it would have been more helpful if you could have added more details of what transpired in the workshop. Thank you.

Oh pardon my brevity. Next time, I'll try not to leave out those details you'd find interesting.
Thanks for your suggestion.

@luxx, that would be much better.

You got that out from me greenrun. I was expecting something much more when I clicked on this post

@gentleshaid I guess the next update will have more details
