#NeedleWorkMonday - Dice Bags

Happy #needleworkmonday, friends!

This weekend I've been working on some dice bags for a commission. I very rarely take commission, as I don't like the pressure associated with it, but occasionally, I'll do it if I feel like I'll have creative freedom in the project. For this commission, I was asked to make five different dice bags to represent five different armies for Warhammer 40K. I was shown pictures of the models in this individual's collection and asked to try to color match.

I cut fabric for four out of five of the bags yesterday. I need to pick up one more color for the fifth. I completed the "Inquisitors" bag and added ink-dyed felt "purity seal" parchments on a whim.

The rest of the fabric is laid out and waiting for stitchery to happen. These will be roughly 6x6x8" bags when all is said and done.

I keep reading your posts about dice bags... what is that? I know they are bags, that hold dice. Is there a game or something they are associated with?

These ones are themed to the game Warhammer 40k, but dice bags are just bags that hold dice. :-) You see them a lot in the tabletop gaming community. Think D&D or wargaming.

That makes sense now. I only use dice for monopoly. I avoid monopoly, but my kid follows me around with the board until I give in.

This is the first time that I have hear of "dice bags", @luthvarian. You have educated me. Your perspective on commission work is interesting and I wonder if I will feel this way, too if asked. Happy #NeedleworkMonday!

These are cute dice bags. I’ve heard of them but never had to use them for any games. Thanks for sharing what you’ve been up to! I’m sure they will all turn out really cute~ 😊

Nice looking. How do you make the pull string holder? Any tips for us?

Before I sew the liner and the outside together, I stitch a button hole into the outside piece. Then I stitch and turn right-side out. Finally, I run a line of stitches about and a line of stitches below the button hole. This creates a channel through which I thread my drawstring.

Thank you for sharing! I’m often vexed by wanting to do this the right way or a crappy quick way. Buttonholes are a great way to go!
I’ve also used grommets before. That was more for the waistband on drawstring pants.

You have been very busy @luthvarian. I like the idea of having dice bags because I know someone that collects Dungeons & Dragons dice :)

Happy #needleworkmonday. I must say every time I see a style of yours its the first time I've ever seen it. I'm sure it will come out great! The colour combo is also cool.

I've never heard of these bags. Please tell me, what are they used for? It is interesting to look at the finished work

This is a novel idea! I like the decoration.
