Last Time on Twitch

On Tuesday, we did the messy job of processing silk mawata, a preparation of silk where individual cocoons are stretched over a frame to create layer upon layer of fiber! It was fun and a little icky, but we had a lot of fun.

We also learned something. Usually, when you process silk for spinning, you use washing soda to break down the sericin. I had run out of washing soda, so I used laundry detergent instead. The laundry detergent worked, but not nearly as well and it took much longer. So if you're processing silk, stay with the tried and tested washing soda.

Tonight, on Twitch, we're going to dye some silk mawata. I've got some soaking since last night so we'll be ready to go tonight. See you there! 8pm CST
