Not Interested In politics? Tough... Because politics is interested in you...and it won't be ignored.

.....There is no escaping it.
It doesn't matter how deep you bury your head in the sand.
It carries on - with or without your involvement.

Plato once said, “One of the penalties of refusing to participate in politics is that you end up being governed by your inferiors.”

(That's not what he actually said, btw- but it's the truncated bite size version).

Crytpo currencies, blockchain technology, even steemit development - all have one thing in common...

Their immediate futures, are decided by the politics of the now.
Which also means the long term future is decided by the politics of now.

If you think the tech of the future is beyond the politics of today, then I would strongly suggest you look across the room, and look at a plug socket, the one your computer uses for its power.
And then think about it...Deeply.
If you think governance doesn't effect your high tech world of the future, then have a look at the Ukraine in the 1920's.
It was a capital offense to take one grain of wheat off your own farmland without submitting it to the central government.
How many Ukrainian farmers in 1915, ignored politics - because it never affected them...?

Focusing solely on only the future of this world doesn't make you 'enlightened'- It makes you a dreamer.
And dreaming has a valuable place in this world.
The value of dreaming of a future, without is being based in the reality of 'the now,' is an empty distraction at best, and a dangerous dereliction of personal responsibility, at worst.

If you are not actively contributing in laying out the political and economic foundations, now - through discourse, and conversation - then you are just gambling on some random future.

The future IS a gamble, but not weighing in with your own conversation is making it totally random.
Your voice weights the gamble in your favor, no matter how infinitesimally.
Political involvement now, is edging your own bet on the future that you want to see...

Choices for the switched on...

1/Day dreaming the the possibilities of a world that you want to see, without getting involved.
...and thus leaving you open to a future that's only ever based on the whims of other people.

This is absolving your personal responsibility of the future.

This is childlike in it's outlook.
It has shades of nihilism.
It has shades of cowardice.
It has shades of selfishness.

Or...

2/ Help to shape the future that you want to see, with your own words and perspectives.

This is taking personal responsibility.

This is being an adult.
It has shades of optimism.
It has shades of courage.
It has shades of selflessness.

Ignoring the politics of the day, doesn’t make it go away.
Doing nothing is apathy.
It has shades of nihilism.
It has shades of cowardice.
It has shades of selfishness.

Your children and your grandchildren may well pay the price of your own political apathy.
It has shades of selfishness.

Remaining absent from the arena, just means that you accept the possibility that much more inferior men than yourself, will gain ascendancy to then rule over you, in the future.
Is that, personally speaking, acceptable?
It has shades of nihilism.
It has shades of cowardice.

The political fence sitters that talk of the future, without hard laser focus on the present, are actually living in the past.
They live in a world that was.
A stable world.
We are not in that world anymore.

We are now at a time in history that's at a defined fork in the road, or a crossing of the Rubicon.
The central bank facade is finally collapsing, after over a 100 years of a fake stability.

For the first time in history, people have access to more information than ever before.
This is the first time in history that we've ever been so connected to each other.

This is the first time in history where each individual has more chance of their political voices being heard, than ever before.

And to then NOT choose to use it?

If you are one of those daydreaming of a future, (actually living in the past ), then really choose to live in the past, and study some history....

Look at all the people in the past who had no possibility of ever having a political voice.

Do you think they would look on in admiration at the apolitical?
Would your ancestors chests, fill with pride?
Would they be proud of you for not using that voice that has been given to you? A voice that you have now that's been paid for in other peoples blood...
Or would they look on in disappointment, and sadness?
Sadness at the lack of fighting spirit of the fence sitter?
Disappointment at the lack of respect for their ancestors labors?
Sadness at the lack of respect shown for the better life given to you, by those who came before?

If the majority of your attention is focused on watching the future of cryptocurrency or technology, (or The Kardashian's - its exactly the same thing, just with different IQ levels), and then - at the same time- allowing the political processes of today to pass you by , choosing not to be involved_ .....How is that a logical position to take?

Choosing to have no voice.
Choosing to abdicate your influence.
What does that say?
About you?

Some may find this post annoying, irritating - or even anger inducing, and I say... yay!
It means something has happened.
I'm not trying to build bridges. (that's s a game I leave to the SPA).
I tell my truth as I see it.
The SPA can find directness extremely uncomfortable. There's no ether to hide in.
People that choose interact with me and is an entirely organic process, and it's not a formulated social engineering project of the social politician.

I AM trying to get people to think, and to help them break out of the mind prisons that you weren't aware of ever being in.

By trying my best to shape it NOW, I'm trying my best to make it a future that I want to see.
...It has shades of selfishness.

I care about the world being a better place, and if that means 'offending' people out of their cowardice , so be it - it seems like a small price to pay.
It has shades of optimism.
It has shades of courage.
It has shades of selflessness.

Peoples voices are needed now if we are to avoid the silence of a totalitarian communist hell, later.

The more silence that's exhibited now, will only mean that it becomes a much harder place to have any sophisticated, civilized , and open conversations in the future.

And silence in the future, will be the price you pay for not involving yourself now.
Unless you state your beliefs, you have no foundation. No anchor. No solidity. No integrity.
No one can take issue with you, without knowing your beliefs.
That way you play it 'safe'.
The motivations for this, as I have seen it -from my own experiences- tends to emanate from the 'socially adept political animal'.
It has shades of cowardice.
It has shades of selfishness.

The effects of silence? More tribalism.
And that only leads to a more intense kind of conflict... Eventually.

Is it not better to fight now, and stand up with your principles held high rather than letting your children go through the the violent conflict further down the road?

...Shades of cowardice...
...Shades of selfishness...

The fence sitting, but very intellectually strong individual - can ignore politics, while at the same time playing politics on a daily basis in their online social environment. It's safe.
It's expedient.
Playing politics on the social level is the very avoidance of conflict.
It has shades of cowardice.
It has shades of selfishness.

Politics in the bigger arena is a civilized verbal war. It is finding conflict.
It's very real.
The social politician will avoid 'real' at all costs.
The manipulation of others, and thus garnering loyalty through a conscious engineering (even to the point of fealty), relies on words in the ether, and not solid reality.
'Sitting on the fence' , to avoid verbal conflict because of social political expediency, is weak.
The fear of offending others, and with personal gain having priority over saying your truths..
It's cowardly in it's nature.

If you want to be take responsibility for the world that you want to see in the future, then that will begin with conversations about politics.

About ideologies.
About philosophy.

.... It's about the courage to stake a claim in your own future, (and your children's).

If virtuous men don’t engage within the community and with their own politics - then sooner or later, they will be ruled over by the politics of those who didn't stay silent..

Sort:

Interesting truth.

Gotta admit i think the whole process is a puppet show and voting long ago became meaningless, so what is politics anyway?

Politics is the discussion of ideas, towards the best way to organize society.

That is what Politics should be. In it's current state it seems more like Politics is JOKE, a sick Joke on us.

I seriously question just "how much of a voice" any one voter has in an election, especially national elections.

Local referendums and some state level may be marginally useful. But for every 1 bad law that is overturned how many thousands are shoved through without anyone even knowing about them?

"People say if you don't vote you can't complain. I say if you DO vote, you cant complain. You wanted a master, and you got one." ~George Carlin~ (maybe)

I can't disagree with your perspective...

but equally, it doesn't change anything - they are still coming for you - so why not at least try to affect change, rather than the alternative..?

I wasn't referring to voting specifically - politics starts everywhere, way before any silly voting...
It's about engagement more than anything..

What i love about the future is that everyone whom a certain thing effects will be able to vote directly, and in real time upon it.

It won't be "official" polls, it will be an actual answers to questions.

Further, people will see the direct cause / effect of their politicing.
Currently, most people are so removed from actual decisions as to be not wrong when they say, "your vote doesn't matter".

Governance is about to take a huge leap forward, after being all but stuck for the last 200 years.

I think you might be correct. I hope you are.
