I need someone to explain things to me!
Hey guys,
I hope you’re all having a wonderful Sunday.
Now, this isn’t the first time I’ve been incredibly confused over something on Steemit and asked for my fellow Steemians to help. I’m not the brightest spark in the bunch and do sometimes need some help to clarify things to me.
My latest edition of confusion is as follows;
When I first did my research of Steemit and first came onto the platform in September, the author of a post would receive 75% of the rewards and half would be in SBD and the other in Steem Power. I didn’t do the maths every time but there was nothing that stood out to me that I wasn’t receiving that.
Recently I’ve noticed that this can’t be the case. For example... I had a post of roughly $170 and from that I received roughly 34SBD and approximately 7Steem Power which is clearly not 75%. This wasn’t the first time I’d noticed this happening but because it’s now happened quite a lot, I thought I would send out a post to see if anybody could explain?
Every time I’ve sent one of these posts, I’ve received an abundance of informative answers, which has really helped out a lot!
Now, just so you know, I’m incredibly happy with whatever I receive on here. It’s changed my life dramatically and so any amount really is quite overwhelming. However, I was just requiring as to why it isn’t 75% anymore 😊
Enjoy your days!

Hi Lucy,
I'll try to break it down for you. I think you're talking about this payout right?
You've got it mostly right, in your understanding of how it works, but I think what you don't realize is that there is an option that can be initiated when you post that gives a part of the payout to a benefactor.
So in this case, it looks like you posted on dtube and thus they automatically take a cut, I think it's 25%. You can see it in the image above. Any sites built on the Steem blockchain have the option to take this kind of cut and it's how they are able to fund their project. Users have the option to assign an additional benefactor to all their posts if they wanted as well.
Anyway, back to the issue. So you now have curators getting 25%, dtube getting 25% and you left with 50%. That 50% is then divided into SBD and Steem. The Steem you receive has a dollar value that equals the amount of SBD you receive.
In this case since you received 34 SBD you would also get $34 worth of Steem which at the time of payout equaled the 7.45 Steem you ended up getting. (Looks like Steem was sitting at about $4.56 when the post paid out.)
Hope that clears it up a bit, but if not feel free to ask any questions.
Thank you so much ! your answer was really helpful to understand this payout mechanism 😊
No problem, glad I can do something useful every once in a while!
@raised2b, that is so unbelievably helpful! Thank you so much!
Thank you for taking the time to help me out, it’s an incredibly informative answer and you’ve managed to totally clue me up on the situation and teach me more than I thought could even fit into my brain at this point. Haha I really appreciate it!
Now when I see what I’ve been paid out I’ll have a good understanding to it!
No worries, happy to help.
Trust me, the only reason I know this is because I was just as confused as you at one point! :)
Haha well it looks like you helped a few of us out! Cheers again!
I may be turning to you next time I have an unsolved mystery :)
Hi Lucy, I'm new here ! I have been using steemit since last 10 days. I'm facing this problem as well. its not 75% these days. its very very less. I can't even do the math.
I have noticed that the value is paid in 1 week time & I have seen it to go down with time. even steemit didn't pay my curation rewards which I earned while upvoting & commenting on others post.
I'm sorry I could not help you on this but I'm also a victim of the same problem. Its very discouraging for the new users !
Yeah! It’s very odd!
Like I said, I’m incredibly happy with whatever I receive but I’m just very confused as to why it started off being 75% and now it’s about 25%.
Don’t be discouraged from steemit though if you’re new. It’s still really good so keep doing what you’re doing!
yeah I will keep on posting 🙂 ! also @raised2b cleared a lot of confusion , really kind of him !
i thought to help you .How?
I just wanted to know if there was a reason
The number on the votes and in the bottom of the post refers to STU.... check Steem.Supply/@lucybanks for info on your payouts.
