Help Yourself Overcome Your Perfectionism

in #life3 years ago

Depression and an Article About Perfectionism; I think there is a link between these two because a major part of what creates happiness in one person is the absence of unhappiness in others. You can see this in everyday life, when you are having a good day or a bad day it doesn't matter how much you hate the outcome because you know that tomorrow will be better. But why do we let perfectionism get in the way of living and making our lives better? I believe it is because perfectionism feeds on negative emotions and the need to control outcomes. One way that I have noticed that people tend to deal with this issue more than they admit is that they justify poor self-esteem and low self-belief as being necessary elements of success, thus perpetuating their perfectionism.

So I decided to write an article on this subject as well in hopes that it will help others avoid perfectionism and build their confidence, not only in themselves but also in life in general. Because everyone is unique and experiences life differently, sometimes things will not work out the way that you want them to go and sometimes you just have a bad day. However, you shouldn't let this deter you from living life to the fullest. Remember, anything worth having is worth working for.

In this article I am going to be discussing an area that is often brought up about depression and an article about perfectionism. This is the idea that we all look down on those who are not as successful as we would like for ourselves. In fact, this idealism can lead to a variety of problems, one of which is depression. Because perfectionism feeds on negative emotions and the need to control outcomes, it can lead to a life full of depression, lack of confidence and relationship issues. If you feel like you are living in a society that belittles you, it may be time to take a step back and take a look at the situation you are in and analyze it more closely.

One of the biggest problems with perfectionism is that those suffering from it tend to focus on negative outcomes and the thoughts that go along with them. These include thoughts such as "I could never do that," "I could never complete that," "Why am I getting so stressed out over this," and so forth. Because these negative thoughts lead to feelings of depression, lack of self-esteem and general anxiety, the sufferer ends up becoming very isolated and depressed. It can also lead to emotional disorders as well. Believe it or not, a lot of perfectionist people end up with eating disorders and even anorexia.

You might be thinking that you are not a perfect person and therefore your life is not filled with perfectionism. However, many perfectionists do actually live lives of mediocrity, inadequacy and depression. In fact, when a perfectionist dies, it is said that his or her life was full of perfectionism and this is why he or she ended up dead. That is not to say that there aren't some really great perfectionists out there who have managed to achieve amazing things in their lives. The problem is that they usually don't share enough about what really went wrong with their pursuit of perfection and what life has lost without them.

For example, if you suffer from a lack of social skills because you think that you are not good enough to make friends, you might try to befriend everyone you meet. Unfortunately, not everyone will feel the same way about your behavior. If you don't tell people about what you feel like you are missing out on a great source of companionship. That's because, by the time you tell someone about how you really feel about being a perfectionist and what it's like living that way, they are likely not in a frame of mind to be sympathetic towards your plight. If you truly want to live a life full of meaning and be a contributing member of society, you need to talk to other people and talk to yourself about your feelings of inadequacy.
