Liquid battery may replace petrol and instantly charge electric car.

in #technology7 years ago

Researchers at Purdue University in West Lafayette have found that they have invented a flow cell, which quickly charges electric cars. Instead of plugging them into a power outlet and waiting, we put a glowing electrolyte into them and simultaneously getting rid of the old one. The new technology is supposed to be cheap, safe and environmentally friendly.

The key to success is to be a flow cell. This is a type of battery in which two electrolytes circulating in separate circuits are used as electrodes instead of solid electrodes and electrolytes. In a sense, this is the combination of a fuel cell and a battery - where liquid energy is used to generate electricity and can be charged in the same system. On this video you can see how such a link works:

Dr. Mike Mueterthies, the third co-founder of Ifbattery, founded to commercialize their invention, said that "other flow cells exist, but we were the first to remove the membrane [which separates both electrolytes], reducing costs and extending the life of our batteries." In addition, "battery components are so safe that they can be stored at home. They are stable enough to meet high production and distribution requirements and are cost-effective in production. "

What do you think about this idea? Will it spread and replace standard fuels?
