WHAT IT TAKES TO BE A WRITER.

Dear writer,

Have you ever asked yourself what it takes to become a writer?

You probably joined the writing biz because of peer pressure, an author you fell in love with, a short piece of writing you saw while scrolling, anything...

A few months into the business, you are frustrated.

"Why is it not working for me? Everyone is getting likes and recommendations!"

To be a writer isn't just about feelings. Feelings fade. Your work and effort determine if that particular job or skill will last or favour you.

Let me fill you in on some things you should have to be a better and more successful writer.

🚀 Passion: Being a writer doesn't mean once you have the money, you spend it on ads or buying likes and so what not. You have to develop the drive to sit in front of your laptop or book daily to bring out something to show the public.

🚀 Be a better reader: Reading articles, stories, or any piece of writing doesn't guarantee that you are a writer. The way you go about reading or sourcing for information is what makes you a badass writer. Avoid skimming. Read in between the lines. Notice the tone of the author. Remember, little things matter.

🚀 Write often: I wanted to say write daily but humans have plans always. But then, in a week, pick particular days set aside to practice your writing. Practice makes you a better version.

🚀 Recognize why you want to become a writer: This is for times when you experience 'burnout'. Burnout is a form of exhaustion caused by excessive emotion. physical, and mental stress. It happens when you are overwhelmed and emotionally stressed. When this feeling comes and you feel like quitting, if possible, write the reasons that made you join writing in the first place. Tell yourself the goals you set to achieve through writing.

If you have these in mind, coming back every day and showing up isn't going to be a problem.
