Friends,

My father was having a camera which was made in Germany. He was with the Indian Air force and traveled to different countries. He told me afterward that he has purchased this camera from abroad.

At that time, I think, color photographs were nonexistent in India, and with this camera, black and white photographs were taken. He was having a flashlight separately which could be attached with the camera with a chord. The flashbulb was naked and had to change from time to time.

He used to wash the films after taking photographs in a fixed studio, where sometimes he washed the films himself in a dark room. This was an attraction for me. He was very possessive with this camera and not allowed me to touch that.

These black and photographs required the perfection of the photographer as light and exposure played a major role in the quality of the picture. Though these are the same for color photographs also, I believe.

When I was young he gifted me a slick camera and at that time color photograph rolls were available but expensive. I used to take a picture with this camera whenever we were traveling anywhere or visiting any relatives’ place.

Then a video camera had been purchased by my cousin's brother which was a craze at that time and my brother and I tried to do the video photography.

In the meantime, I have purchased a small digital camera made by Nikon. I used to take photographs with that whenever I was traveling. I used it for quite a long time.

When the mobile phone started blooming, with the advancement of the camera inside, amateurs like me started shooting with the mobile. I believe some professionals are also using mobile phones to produce beautiful color pictures.

Though I still believe that black and white photos are the best, which gives a real understanding of the capabilities of the photographer.
