For today I decided to go with the song called "Broken Crown" by Mumford & Sons. In my opinion, Mumford & Sons is another hidden talented band, very underrated.

There is a perfectly edited video of this song + some scenes from the show called "Black Sails", this song goes well with Cpt. Flint character, it gives me chills every single time. The whole horror Flint is going through and with this lovely music in the background, I must say that this is a deadly combination. You can check the video here:

Very powerful lyrics, I will write down my favorite verses of the song and I will fully explain them from my perspective, but feel free to drop a comment below if the song gives you different emotions.

The first verse of the song:

"The touch of his mouth and hold of his tongue" means that he will be tempted to be with her again, forgive her all and just move on, his desire is enormous, but he knows that he will never be her chosen one, he knows that she may hurt him again and that's why he won't let his desire to win over his head. With this "I'll be home, safe and tucked away" line he tells us that he won't fall for her again if he is home, safe and tucked away because when you are alone you have this strange power to absorb the facts and do the right thing. While you are not alone, you may get a different feeling, the society has an impact on you, on your behavior and judgment, so he knows that staying home will help him to get the right decision about his relationship.

The 2nd verse of the song

Better not to breathe than to breathe a lie

He found himself in a bad situation where his body wants to connect with her again, but his mind won't and the battle is on. He comes with "Better not to breathe than to breathe a lie" like it's better for him to just leave his life without her than to continue with her and to experience betrayal and lies again. Because whenever he opens with her she just betrays him.

The 3rd verse of the song

So crawl on my belly 'til the sun goes down
I'll never wear your broken crown
I took the road and I fucked it all away
Now in this twilight how dare you speak of grace

Not wearing her crown means that he won't be a part of her world full of betrayals, lays, not involving in morals and ethics, he just won't experience the world through her eyes.
"Now in this twilight how dare you speak of grace" after she throws him into the darkness he can't find the light again, so her grace is a hypocrite for him.

Of course, none of the above can be true, we can never know what is happening in the author's head and what pushed him to write this song but that's why I love music, we can raise our own emotional meaning of any song and kinda accept it and grow with it, see it as a path to our internal glory. The fact that not everyone experiences the song the same as the others, gives any song hundreds of different meanings and still makes it beautiful, same with the movies.
