One Week On Steemit: The Adjustments So far

in #untalented-adjustments6 years ago (edited)

How I wish you could see my face right now. Shining and smiling and rejoicing. Cause today makes it seven days on the Steemit platform. You all know what that means, it means I have blogged, learned and now I have earned too on Steemit. My little voice could have so much value. Well, thats me and am sure you can see the steam of joy radiating from my voice. That's because am glad to have come this far in a week.

The journey has been interesting, tasking and educating so far. It's amazing the number of bullshit I have to push aside to change the course of my life in just a period of one week. So let me just share with you a few of the adjustments that I have made since joining Steemit a week ago....

Patience, Determination, Commitment: They say patience is a virtue but my limits was tested when I had to wait for about two weeks before my account was approved. It wasn't funny cause a lot of my friends who registered many days after my registration were approved but I wasn't, I almost gave up on it and walk away but am glad for the encouragement of @joshuaetim and @mritsnobigdeal who kept telling me to hold on and keep calm. Well, I learnt something about patience. That patience means working hard to improve while waiting and not just waiting alone. So, in that two weeks, I combed the internet for every single info about this platform. What I learned was amazing. I learned that to succeed on Steemit or in life as a whole, patience and commitment to a course has to be at the top of my personality. I understood that life on Steemit is not a get rich quick scheme (though you might be lucky and spring up if discovered early). I have to continually channel your energy towards achieving excellence. I have to keep holding on even though the earning isn't much cause one day I shall be discovered cause gold fish, they say, has no hiding place.

Putting My Thoughts in Paper and Ink: I always love poetry, used to form a lot of poems in my head. You may be surprised that I have never written down any poem until I came to Steemit. When I came around and read some good works by others, I was inspired and I felt others will want to read my works too. It sparked something in me that energized me whenever I dip my quill in the ink to write. Now I tend to go about with a book and pen cause you never know what and when the next inspiration will come.

Time Management: Gone are the days I allowed moments to pass me by while I hibernate. Coming to Steemit requires commitment which is measure in time and energy. I even plan my life for weeks ahead now. I discovered how valuable my time and attentions are. Its either am planning what to write next, writing one already or reading through the works of others. Either way, the valuable for my time has increased geometrically since joining Steemit.

Attaching value to activities and putting away frivolities: this is self explanatory as everyone on Steemit knows how important it is to pay attention to the things that matters.

Balancing work and life: When I started out the first few days, I had to stay indoor behind closed doors so I can pay attention to my work. This touch badly on the relationship with my loved ones. So now I have learned to give my work a life and my relationships with people a life and respect both. This is very important if I wants to achieve happiness as a working father and husband in the near future.

The importance of finding a niche: a lot of people try to write articles in every trending categories (tags) even when that isn't where their passion and knowledge is - they usually fail. I quickly learned that Steemit is like a full community with offices, bar, schools, restaurant, even churches. Anything you are good at and are passionate about, write it cause there are people who appreciate content from that category. I focus my attentions at categories and articles that I enjoy and find interesting, this is where I am good and passionate about and this is where I'll have impact. Sometimes, I do explore content in other territories just to keep myself abreast with development around me.

Giving is a gift: there is a reason why so many people roam about some generous author's post commenting 'nice work thanks for sharing' when they totally understood nothing about the post or sometimes have not even read anything.
Its fine we try to get some kind of reward through our comments- after all we came here first for the money before deciding whether or not to stay for the community. Steemit operates on a gift economy where in order to receive anything you must first learn to give out. When someone make a post, I appreciate the efforts put into writing so I take reasonable time to read through articles that are of interest to me, give out reasonable comment to share my opinions and contribute to the author's work. And if the reward comes as an upvote, its a bonus cause I have already gained value in knowledge by reading. If we all learn to give first to the community and give value to the hard work of an author, the upvote we want will twerk in one day.

Engaging and encouraging others to join Steemit: whenever I see greats evangelist like @ejemai and @ewuoso for the good works of Steemit, I always believe deep within me that I'll grow in Steemit to be as powerful as they are. Well it didn't start long before it happens, in just one week I have brought in 17 friends and colleagues to the platform. These include @itini, @iliyap @jingis07 @profaricson @victoriasunday @unwanajames @chris9911 @joyce-okpobo. Others are yet to be approved or to make their first post. Thats how much I have come to value this platform. And now I have come to meet @xpency the Abuja Steemit missionary worker, together we'll promote this platform till all the youths in Nigeria gets value for their voice.

These, my dear readers, and many more are what I have learned to help make adjustments in my life in the first one week on Steemit.

Am grateful to @surpassinggoogle for his contribution towards Nigerians and Philippines especially during their first week here. As I was writing this article, I read your post about your mum and her call to Glory. Am glad she fought a good fight and she will be proud with what you have done to people who you don't expect to pay you back. God grant you the strength to continue the good work.
Thanks too @joshuaetim for directing my steps here and for the continued support during my first week here. I won't forget. And also to @donkeypong @hr1 and @fulltimegeeks who visited my blog and made my first week an encouragement to do more, am grateful.

To my readers and followers, I love you all. We are here today, we are here to stay. 谢谢
