My Comfort Bubble in The Sky

As COVID continues to ground me over the next few months, I wanted to remember an experience in the sky and talk about one of the most important parts of my flying voyage. It’s no secret that aircrafts are loud. As a passenger, the sound of jets spinning up and eventual blast that emerges as take-off engages is audible to say the least. I love the experience of taking off into the sky and waiting to reach my destination within the next few hours or longer when going further. Long haul flights are my favourite in general. I get to settle into my seat for next half a day and relax a little. Relaxing on a plane? Well not always, but I try to make the most out of what I do and experience.
Travelling in economy is the norm for me so comfort levels aren’t quite as comfy as those in first class or business. But hey, that’s not to say economy class is unbearable. It’s fine, albeit a little cramped. I love zoning out to my favourite movies or shows and I have never bothered with inflight entertainment. You know, the touchscreen display that people normally stare at before dozing off. I come well prepared with a laptop for some work, a tablet and Nintendo Switch. With tonnes of media on the move with me, I find myself easily sitting through long haul flights without a sign of boredom.
I must say, the Nintendo Switch is a phenomenal piece of kit and I’ve actually played with random strangers sitting next to me from time to time. Generally my flights have been without much disturbance and these bonuses are spontaneous but it doesn’t always mean I will have the perfect flight. One of the key parts of getting into my own bubble is to drown out both the aircraft’s engines and the people around me to some degree. Children shouting and crying are just part of flying and at times when I want to shut my eyes, it can be a problem. This is where my trusty noise cancelling headphones come in. I have a few pairs of high end Bluetooth headphones that are both comfortable and sound great. These are a travel essential. Even without anything to listen to, I use them for a comfortable journey as they keep my ears warm and keep the sound out. So if you’re travelling any time soon, consider picking up a pair to make that long haul journey a little better. Sadly I don’t know when I’ll be in the sky again, hopefully soon.
