Route 66 ๐ ๐
Route 66
Hi friends, I hope you're fine? Me, it's great, I took a few days off to go to Disneyland Paris, it was magic! I do not know if my children or I were the most excited, we do not remake, I will always be a child in my head; o) I also bought a stuffed Alice's cat at wonderland; o) My children took the lion king and pan pan in Bambi ; o)
I am going to speak to you today about the famous and unavoidable route 66.
I do not bike but I had a scooter being younger and I would pass my bike license just to go on a road trip on this legendary road, it must be unforgettable!
Route 66 was the first route that connected the shores of Lake Michigan to Chicago on the Pacific shore in Santa Monica, California. Route 66 covers 2448 miles and runs through eight states: Illinois, Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, California, and Kansas.
Road 66 was originally an old road that connected Chicago to Santa Monica between the years 1926 and 1985 in the United States.
During the Great Depression of the 1930s and the drought wave of the Dust Bowl (name given to a region straddling Oklahoma, Kansas, and Texas, hit in the 1930s by drought and a series of causing dust storms a serious ecological and agricultural catastrophe), farmers looking for a job migrated to California by Route 66.
It was then officially downgraded in 1985. Despite this, it has kept its mythical character and is the most famous road of the United States.
Since the early 1990s, organizations have been created to ensure its preservation and more and more initiatives to develop tourism are developed.
At first, the road was not fully paved, only with President Franklin Delano Roosevelt it will be completely coated from Chicago to Santa Monica in 1937.
Several cities have developed along Route 66 such as Amarillo in Texas, Albuquerque in New Mexico, ... Hundreds of motels, cafes, gas stations, tourist attractions and other souvenir shops have been established. along this road.
Section located in Arizona
According to the enthusiasts, the most beautiful section of Route 66 would be in Arizona. This stretch of road has a dignified atmosphere in the 50s and 60s.
It is called the mother road, indeed, it was nicknamed that because all the secondary roads of the time there debouched.
Below, you will discover some unmissable stops on this portion of Route 66.
Williams
Williams is a very important tourist stop on Route 66, which is located about 95 kilometers south of Grand Canyon National Park. Many visitors stop there to eat, to spend the night or to take the train that will lead them to the Grand Canyon.
The city center is bathed in a retro 1950s atmosphere where there are old gas stations, "dinners", souvenir shops and small museums.
Seligman
After the construction of Interstate 40, a highway, the businesses along Highway 66 began to decline and some cities did not survive.
In 1987 in Seligman an association aiming to protect and rediscover Route 66 was born. People began to return to this road and business gradually resumed.
Seligman was the rebirth of Route 66 and today is the longest preserved stretch in the western United States.
If you go to Seligman, you have to stop at Snow Cap Drive-in, a fast-food restaurant that opened in 1953.
It has become a real museum, the place is filled with quirky road 66 decorations, antiques, old license plates and many other more amazing objects than any other.
After eating, make a stop at the Angel and Vilma's old-fashioned Route 66 Gift Shop and Museum. It is filled with antiques and souvenirs from Route 66.
Hackeberry
Hackeberry is an old mining town dating from 1874 and the oldest along Route 66.
Its mine closed in 1919 but at the height of Highway 66, it stopped there to refuel in one of its many service stations.
The city has become a ghost town following the opening of Interstate 40.
In 1992, traveling artist Bob Waldmire reopened the Hackberry General Store, which now serves as a tourist information center and gift shop. You can admire a magnificent collection of vintage cars and beautiful gas pumps era.
Kingman
In this city that claims to be the historic heart of Route 66, you can visit the Powerhouse Route 66 Museum, which presents the historical evolution of this legendary route.
You can see life-size photographs of the different groups of people who have traveled the Route 66 through the years.
I hope this article has allowed you to escape a little in any case for me yes, reading these few lines I had the impression to be a little and feel the heat coming off the road and the wind slipping in my hair.
It's one of my dreams to travel this route 66 and finish it in California at Santa Monica ... One day who knows ... I should already pass my motorcycle license and for the rest we'll see; o)

Wow, to go on an extended roadtrip along route 66 would be magical. I love ghost towns and abandoned places. However, I would prefer to make the trip in a convertible. :)
