Mental exercise by learning languages

I heard about Duolingo a while ago when someone was talking about peer-learning. But I only just got round to taking a proper look. I really like it, it's fun to do.

If you want to see my progress, I'm this Lloyd Davis (seventh of that name!).

I've started with Welsh and Dutch - they're both close to English in lots of ways but also have some weirdnesses. I've always loved learning new and different languages (including those "spoken" by computers!) and I took three (human) languages at 'A' level - can you guess which ones?

What I like most is that you jump straight in with a mix of ways of interacting - translating to and from English and hearing native speakers saying short phrases - I can't help copying them and trying out phrases for myself even though that's not an active part of the course. It's working well for me and I'm on a five-day streak so far.

Have a go at 'siarad Cymraeg' or 'spreken Nederlands'

I love Duolingo. They tell me I'm almost 50% fluent in Spanish, but I think they're being kind. Nonetheless, it's been very cool to get so far just doing it fifteen minutes a day. If you run into any problems, the "discuss this sentence" link is a life saver. The "strengthen skills" exercises are really helpful too. Good luck with it! I'm following you now.

It's amazing isn't it? Yes, I like the "discuss this sentence", really useful. Followed back! :)
