When Bank Notes Cry for Help!!!

The legal tender or paper money is the acceptable means of currency in every sovereign State or Nation, it was developed to replace the ancient systems of money like the Trade by barter, which was an unreliable standard of monetization, the manilla was another form of money in the past.

Over use of these notes render them torn, dirty, most times completely damaged and unacceptable, this happens mostly in nations where cashless bank policies are not really in place.

In Nigeria, torn, tattered, ragged, dirty and foul smelling Naira notes are in circulation. My mind is telling me that some big shot in an Air Conditioned office somewhere in Abuja is making money from the continuous circulation of these expired notes.

I was given a 100 naira note as change yesterday and I had wash my hands after I dispensed of the note because the nature of the note indicated it had a legion of bacteria, viruses and fungi dwelling on it.

Everybody is now playing the game of passing off the torn notes as soon as possible to the next sucker. From the keke driver who tricks you into collecting the torn note by folding it and thrusting it into your palm, and then speeding off before you can raise the alarm and demand for a substitution, to the petrol station attendant who carefully hides the tattered note inside a pile of clean naira notes as she gives you your change.

These notes are crying out to be discarded from circulation but yet we are still using them. It will get to a point where we can no longer salvage them with cello tape.

Right now I can swear that this faded 50 Naira cello tape ridden polymer note i got this evening as change was in my hands on Monday. How it managed to return to me today is a mystery.

I am tired of collecting torn notes as change. Right now, I have a pile of tattered notes that my conscience won’t let me use.

Banks and bankers, stop circulating these ragged notes in the system, do you want to be unfortunate in life?

it is so pathetic, how this naira notes still remain in circulation is beyond me.

Though is not solely on the Government for not doing her and remove this faded and tattered notes from circulations but also on the population for ill handling of the paper notes, Nigerians must learn to take care of the note and not squeeze, stain it and handle it carelessly.

Well, we always come back to the government. a lot of sensitization needs to done on proper handling of the notes or maybe a law needs to be put in place and enforced.

I also have a couple of this notes someone pass on to me when I wasn't paying attention. Like you said, my conscience won't let me pass it on to the another person.

Thank you for this insightful post.

My brother, its really embarrassing.

The worst of it, those market women who fold this money into their bra to keep it safe, forgetting there are diseases like cancer which could kill them.
If everyone could use a wallet or purse 👛 this currency will be kept well and last longer for usage

Exactly dear. They are not health conscious. And when they are diagnosed with breast cancer, they point fingers to witchcraft
