Ji An Shrine, a Japanese shrine in Taiwan

in #dtube5 years ago (edited)

When the Japanese colonised Taiwan, there were many Japanese working here. In 1917 a Japanese temple was built at Hualien so the workers could have a place to find solace when they missed home. Today, the temple is a listed building and a popular tourist attraction in Hualien.

In the temple, there are 88 stones statues of the deities from the 88 temples in Shikoku, Japan. Traditionally, there is a pilgramage to walk 1300 km to the 88 temples, and when you arrive at each temple a monk will grant you hand written lucky charm. The statues here are a replica of the deities at these temples as many were unable to make the pligramage themselves.

There is another tradition at Ji An Shrine about making wishes. I will show you how in the video, don't miss that and hope you enjoy the tour of Ji An Shrine.

1300 km pilgrimage is pretty intense :O Really lovely temple, though.... I love such buildings, they make me feel peaceful and happy when visiting them :)
