Everipedia has started charging fees

in #eos8 years ago (edited)

Everipedia team recently revealed in telegram that Everipedia will charge a transfers fee to cover the ram costs. A reddit user posted a screencap of that announcement:

The EOS reddit community's response to this announcement was mixed. The top comment by @RiverKingfisher pointed out that this fee was mentioned in the whitepaper.

But some others weren't so happy with it. Since EOS was strongly marketed as a feeless network, it is understandable why people are not happy with this. Redditor @buyram said:

Very poor communication from Everipedia. They saw the same backlash when they didn't communicate that they sold all their RAM and when their main team members flipped to become a block producer

@ColinTalksCrypto blamed the current EOS RAM model for it:

This seems to be showing that EOS's current RAM model isn't working for actual businesses. This move (which I'm sure Everipedia doesn't want to have to do) basically brings back the fee model into a system which is supposed to be fee-less.

@eostony posted the reply "evri’fee’dia !!" in ridicule.

The mixed responses divided the community over whether it was right decision by Everipedia to add a fee. Some users blamed the team for selling ram at a high price and not using it for the DApp itself.

Lets hope other projects dont get the same idea

Informative post! I believe it's also mentioned it only concerns transfers into and out of the everipedia platform, so creating, exciting etc should remain free....

interesting to see how is this going to be played out...
