Photoshooting with Fairy Lights - St. Pauli Piers (Hamburg)

Since our city Hamburg has so many beautiful locations, it was difficult to decide which location we wanted to use first. The weather was pleasant, so it was a must to go to the St Pauli piers. The sun went down at about 10 pm and we couldn't resist to catch the beautiful pink/blue sunset, especially with the skyline and all the lights of the boats and ships in the background.

Landungsbrücken

The St. Pauli Piers (in german we call it „St. Pauli Landungsbrücken), are the largest landing place in the Port of Hamburg, Germany, and also one of Hamburg´s major tourist attractions. The piers are located in St. Pauli area of Hamburg, between the lower harbor and the Fish market, on the banks of the Elbe river.

I don´t even know when the trend has started, but if you go through multiple social media platforms (especially Instagram), there are tons of pictures with special lighting elements in them. The photos, which you see most frequently, are with people holding a long fairy light in their hand which is mostly in a glass jar or slung around their body. You can get the light chains in every DIY markets for a few euros. We intentionally chose the harbour as our first shooting location so all the lights in the background harmonize with the fairy light in the hand.

The pictures down below were taken at the `Reeperbahn´ which is a street and entertainment district in Hamburg´s St. Pauli suburb. It is one of the two centers of Hamburg´s nightlife and also the city´s major red-light district. I was standing in front of a casino with constantly changing lights, which changes from yellow-pink-purple-red within a few seconds. This made it a challenge to capture the perfect moment. I am guessing my friend took about 200 pictures in front of the casino.

So we were walking around the `Reeperbahn´ looking for another location and stopped by a place with beautiful pink light - it was a brothel. Of course we weren´t allowed to take pictures in front of their door, because of disturbance issues. Nevertheless, we tried to take pictures as fast as possible, as within literally a few seconds, the security man sent us away.
For the fact that we only had the chance to capture five pictures, two nice ones came out of it.
