Giving My First Dance Class - Growing Confidence

I started dancing when I was 16 years old. At 18 I had a four year long break from sport, which is an insanely long period for me, as I had practiced martial arts from a young age through to my teenage years. I am really grateful that my mother enrolled my brothers and me at the martial arts school so that we can learn a variety of self defense fighting techniques, including free fight (which was my favorite part). Even though I loved visiting the martial art school, I knew that dancing has always been one of my bigger interest. I didn't get into dancing when I was a child, as I couldn´t get the opportunity to search for a dance school or my will power to find one was not big enough.

When I was 16, a friend asked me whether I wanted to join their dance group. Without any hesitation, I immediately took her offer. We were a group consisting of 10+ people and regularly prepared choreographies for stage appearances. Everything we learned was either made up by us or covered from very talented dancers or singers of youtube. Our group unfortunately split almost two years later and today I am the only one who still dances.

I took my very first dance class last year in October and remember that I struggled to memorize all the steps as I was not used to the high intensity and fast pace. Nevertheless, I powered through and made big improvements with every class. Now, 10 months later, I had the opportunity to lead my very first dance class for the junior as well as advanced group. I think dancing is not only a `sport´- it also builds your self-expression and confidence on and off the dance floor. I used to be super shy during school time and now I could say that through dancing (and the martial art) my confidence had immensely grown.

Of course i´m not a pro dancer, but i´m constantly working on my dance skills till i become the dancer i always wanted to be. Check out my short video down below to get a little insight into the dance class.

„Confidence is something you create within yourself by believing in who you are.“ What is the one thing you´ve always wanted to do but haven´t yet, and why? Btw. I just hit 500 follower. Thank you for all the love and support <3

Much love, Lisa

Hi Lisa! I would love to hear your final choreography!

Why don't we have a dance scene in our film?

What martial arts did you learn? Wushu? WingChun?))

You took the words right out of my mouth. I wanna know too. :)

No wushu hahaha i learned Vovinam for 10 years. It is a vietnamese martial art! Will probably write about it soon

Cool, never heard of that one. I've practiced some Aikido, Chi Kung, and Karate, and my boys are learning Karate. I hope they'll get interested in other martial arts too eventually. :)

I might want to take on dancing, since I hear it is good for the body, and from personal experience, when clubbing (sober, I was always the designated driver) my health was a lot better because I always took to the dance floor. While I have not studied it, I did my best to be creative. It was the best way to use the time while my friends were getting drunk.

Wow that´s a lot, I am super impressed. I also learned Tae Kwon Do at my school. Yes dancing is good for body and mental health. And guess what, I was the designated driver too hahaha

Wow this is awesome! Nice work :) I did dance for many years and I still really enjoy it. This looks like a fun dance class.

Thank you love, what do you dance? Congrats to your 1000 followers btw!

I did a lot of ballet and jazz, and a bit of hip hop. But now I'm mostly just doing yoga. There aren't many dance classes out in the country lol. Thanks hun :)
