Game Boy Tetris Is Now a Multiplayer Game.
sourceGame Boy Tetris is a puzzle video game that was released in 1989. Recently, a hacker changed the gameplay mode of the Game Boy version of Tetris from a single player to multiplayer.
Therefore, if you are a person who gets excited from competing, this is a game for you.For those who don’t understand how to play the game,
here is a brief description. The game requires the player to stuck colored blocks together.
The old version of the game allowed players to go head-to-head using handheld game link cables.
However, for the new version of the game, a hacker figured out how the game could be played online with two people in different geographic locations.
For a player to play online, he/she is required to use a tricked-out USB adapter to connect to Game Boy’s ports in order to play online;
this has allowed the game to be played by two or more players simultaneously from anywhere in the globe. Notably, the hack also applies to Game Boy Advance,
Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Pocket.
Although the hack allowed multiple players from different geographical locations to play,
there are many behind-the-scenes needs for this to work effectively. The open-source USB adapter, stack smashing, was set to reverse-engineer data from a link cable.
Then, the hacker created an open-source software stack that included a Python server and WebUSB frontend. With that in place,
the game can be tricked into thinking that two players are being played only when there are multiple players.
With this new reverse-engineered version of Game Boy Tetris, you can still be in a match of two players but use the web interface to see the progress of other players.
The game is more interesting because players can compete to see who ends up on top at the end of the game.
Go and try out this new version of Game Boy Tetris to get a competing edge on!
